I might have a chance to go to the caribbean in a few months and I was wondering if I need to get passports for my girls? I'm not sure of the rules for travel from the US to the caribbean. I know it's different from travel to Europe or somewhere like that. Just wondering if anyone has any insite. TIA.
Re: Passports for LOs?
we're going to st thomas and i heard that we don't "need" them, but it's recommended that they have them. ?i went online and printed out the paperwork and apparently since DD and DS are under 18 and this is their 1st passport we need to fill out the paperwork and then apply in person with both parents. ?(i guess both are necessary so that some crazy doesn't try to kidnap their child out of the country.) ?HTH. ?i'm interested in what others' have to say...?
If you're flying, everyone gets a passport - https://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html
If you're traveling by land/sea (cruise), you don't have to have a passport, but honestly, I'd just go ahead and get it because they're good for 5 years and that's the direction the State Dept is moving (passports for everyone)
Here's the link for first time applicants, including infants - https://travel.state.gov/passport/get/minors/minors_834.html
Good luck - baby passports are just about the cutest thing ever!
We went ahead and got our boys passports when they were 5 months old. We were heading to Europe and they definitely needed them but not necessarily for our trips to the Caribbean. Check which islands b/c certain ones which are French or Dutch owned you DO need them. They didn't need them in the Bahamas but did in St.Maarten. It's just so much easier to go ahead and get them!
