So ummm, I am pretty sure that my son just ate a bug...a stink bug to be specific. I was sitting with Evan in my lap and look over and see Landon kind of whining and he seemed to be chewing on something. We had already had breakfast so I knew he shouldn't be chewing on anything so I did a sweep of his mouth and out comes some sort of very gross looking object. After careful, scientific observation (and lots of gagging), I have determined that the object was half of a dead stink bug.
So, the question is - where is the other half? I have been on my hands on knees looking for half of a dead bug (side note: is this really my life?? ) and cannot find anything so I am thinking that my son swallowed it. Vom.It. I didn't know what else to do so I called my husband and I thinks I should call the pediatrician just to make sure it's not THAT big of a deal (albeit disgusting). I feel like a real idiot and over zealous mother calling. Would you call?
Anyone also want to share a funny story of something your child ate that they shouldn't have? I know once I get over the gross thoughts that I am having, I will laugh at this some day plus it might make me feel like a little bit less of a failure at life and motherhood...
Re: Fear Factor: Baby Edition
OMG, I'm so sorry. I'm laughing so hard right now. Your witty story, coupled with your siggy pic is just too much for me. LMAO
I don't have a related story to share yet, but I'm certain one day that I will. I guess if it were me, I'd call the pedi just to make sure it's all good, better safe than sorry I guess. Besides, I'm sure they'll get a good Friday laugh out of it too. GL!

Glad I was able to provide a laugh for the day! I just called the pedi and after the front desk person said "Ohhh gross!" she said that it's probably fine and to try to get him to drink as much as possible but to also call poison control to be sure. She was lauging though and I said "I'm going to come up at your office Christmas party, aren't I?" and she just laughed....but she didn't say no.
ETA: Just got off the phone with poison control. Right away when I told her what happened, the lady said it's fine but he might have some really bad breath. I had to ask her if she had gotten this question before and she said "Oh yeah, a lot" (we have had a lot of stink bugs on the east coast this past year). Hey, at least my kid's not the only one...
Love the bad breath comment. I was stinking...I mean thinking, the same thing.

DH watches DS full-time in the summer since his summer school classes are in the evening. The first week he was home with him I get a text that DH heard a crunch and found that DS discovered a big, dead beetle and tried to eat it but couldn't break through the shell. About 10 minutes later another text...DH freaked out when he saw a dark brown object in DS's hand headed toward his mouth, squealed and sprang for the child, only to find that it was just a raisin!!
And speaking of the poop....this is gross but. My niece will eat anything. ANYTHING. Food object or not. She's eaten a stick of chapstick, tube of lipstick, and took a big bite out of my brother's Speedstick deodorant. My SIL lost track of the girls for a second one day, heard the older one freaking out in the bathroom. Upon investigation, it appears Niece2 was in the bathroom while Niece1 was pooping. 1 gets off the toilet to wipe (I think this is how the little tykes do it? She's 4...) and while she was cleaning up, 2 grabbed a poo out of the toilet and ate it.
Ugghhhh!
Suffice it to say I'm thrilled that my son, for the most part, no longer puts foreign objects in his mouth. My niece is 4 months older than him and is just fascinated with eating everything she can get her little hands on. She'll dig in the trash! But then won't eat the meal provided by her parents. Go figure!
We take my girls out with us while I ride and they usually are playing happily outside of the arena with my DH. Well, DD2 grabbed a piece of horse poop while my DH was chasing after the other one and was eating it! She was really mad when we took it away from her. Apparently, it tasted pretty good.
I think eating gross things is a right of passage for them!
This has to be the most hilarious post ever!
When I was little I ate some roly poly/ pill / potato bugs that were dead in the sliding glass track. I still have not lived it down and it gets brought up quite often.
