Dating in Seattle

I am trying to convince a single friend to move to Seattle! Her first response was that she has heard dating in Seattle is very difficult and it's slim pickings. She is 31 and an engineer. I told her I doubt that this is true since there are so many tech companies around and are bound to have lots of eligible men.

What was your experience with dating while Single in Seattle?

Thanks!

Re: Dating in Seattle

  • I managed to find a husband here, and I was 30.

  • I met my husband here when I was 32.  I met him through on line dating... (and I am also an engineer)

  • Online dating at 34/35 and met my husband (and not a lot of duds...still friends with several of the men I dated).

  • One of my girlfriends (32) is having a pretty hard time dating and has pretty much resigned herself to the single life.  She's beautiful, smart, and family oriented (i.e. a good catch), and has tried all different forms of activities to meet guys (online, social networking, etc.) - still no go.  She's finding the eligible guys are either much younger than her, or much older, neither of which she's interested in.

  • My friend has a great saying about dating at Microsoft specifically..."Your odds are good, but the goods are odd!"

    Love it! That's great!

I'd say the trend is online dating no matter where one lives these days. I could be far off, but it does seem like that's where most people I know find partners these days, myself included. There's local guys available, which is what I meant when I said I found one. I didn't meet him at church :)

  • I met mine on Match.com back in 2004 and I know many other girl friends who met theirs online as well, all local Seattlites.

  • I met mine on Match at 29.  I moved from SoCal at 26 and found dating here to be much easier.  Getting a dog helped. A Lot.
  • I moved to Seattle (from the Chicago burbs) in 2002.  Met my DH on Match.com in 2007.  I met several other guys before him and dated one or 2, that I'd also met online.  One guy actually lived in the condo below mine, but we met through a dating site.

  • I think that as long as she's willing to do things like match.com, etc., she should be ok. :)

The worst profession  to be single in is teachers.  I can't tell you how many amazing women in their mid twenties to late 30s that are AWESOME but are so busy with their career and definitely don't meet a lot of eligible bachelors in their jobs....  I wish I could fix them all up *sigh*

Change it to 2002 and the same story here. I know very few couples in Seattle who did NOT meet online. Seattle is very clique-y and it seems you have to be introduced by friends (which is rare) or go online. Odd.
