Baby Names

How many Charlottes do you know?

I hear people talk about the name Charlotte A LOT, but I actually only know 2 little girls with that name... I have always loved the name but thought it was too popular... what do you think?

Big sis is Clara and I think it'd be a cute sibset, although Clara is much less popular of a name. I know Charlotte is #45 on SSA, but I hardly know any kids with that name or the ones ranked in the #40s... other considerations are Audrey, Lucy, Ruby, and Eleanor... rank wise they are less popular, but in real life does it seem that way???

 Thanks for your thoughts :)

Re: How many Charlottes do you know?

  • yeah, it seems to be pretty popular on this board, but i only know one charlotte (she's about 32).
  • just one, she's 2. it's #14 in my state so that is surprising to me that she's the only one!

  • None IRL, it's on my girl list though.
  • I'm in the same boat as you. Soooo many of the "popular" baby names, I've never met a single child with the name. Charlotte is one of them. I know two 50 year old women named Charlotte, but that's it. I live in Canada, and Charlotte is #10 on the 2010 names list. Although, it doesn't make the top 20 in my province. Lots of the time it's a regional thing. I do know a ton of Chloes (#5 national/#10 provincial), Avas (#4 nat./#2 prov.), Brooklyns (#23 nat./#5 prov.), and Ellas (#14 nat./#6prov.). I'm also ashamed to say that Nevaeh is ranked #14 in my province. Ick! #84 nationally. Look up the stats for your state. I don't know any little girls with any of the other names you are considering, either. Although I did hear of one being named Lucy. I think Audrey or Eleanor "go" better with Clara, although I'm not big on sibsets. I would personally choose Charlotte, Lucy, or Ruby, based on personal preference.
  • Like others have said, on TB it seems to be everywhere, IRL I know one and she's about 90.

  • IRL?  I've known 3.  Two are probably in their 50s and the other one is about 17.  It seems like a popular name on the Bump, though.
  • I live in the midwest and have known zero. zip. My kids' names are also in the top 100 or around there I think, and I have still never met anyone with their names. It just depends on your area I think. I say if you love it, go for it !

  • Love this name!!!  I had a great aunt named Charlotte, and I know a 10 year old Charlotte.  That's it.

ETA: I do know a 3 year old Charley, but that is her given name.

  • I have known  0.  I have taught middle school and high school for 13 years.

  • Just mine! Keep in mind a rank of 45 doesn't mean what it used to since there is more of a variety of names that people are using.  Not only do I not know any other Charlottes, everyone is telling me how nice it is to hear such an uncommon name! And these are people who are with children all the time (daycare teachers, delivery nurses, her doctor, etc.)

Two - one is in her 80's and the other is a teen.

I also know two Lucy's (babies), an "almost Ruby" who was born a boy and named Oliver, and several Audrey's (of varying ages) and an Eleanor in her 20's.

  • My DD's name is Charlotte and, unfortunately, I run into little Charlottes all.the.time.  I don't know if it's the area I live in, our social circles or what - but we've just met a ton of Charlottes.  It's funny because Evelyn is a more popular name on the SS name list, but I never run into little Evelyns.

BTW, my Charlotte was *this close* to being named Clara.  I love that name.  I also love Eleanor and Lucy.

  • I know none and live in Seattle.

I am in a moms group with over 70 active members and know 2 Lucy's, no Rubys.

Actually most of the names in my group aren't duplicated besides the ones in the top 10, like Ava, Carter, Conner, Mason, etc.

  • I know 2 girls under 2 with the name Charlotte
