diaper genie.....yes or no?

Did you use a diaper genie or something similar?  We didn't with our DS (who is now 2 1/2), but received one today as a gift.  Does it cost a lot to maintain?  TIA.

Re: diaper genie.....yes or no?

  • We had the Diaper Champ and I loved it. So much so that we got a second one for the downstairs. I really liked that it used regular garbage bags (I believe the Genie you got requires the Genie bags). Arm and Hammer makes great diaper pail odor neutralizers that we just kept in the bottom to help control the smell.

  • I've used both Champ and Genie and I like the Champ much much better. It's easier to use (and clean) and you don't have to get the refills.

  • I vote yes for the diaper genie. It really keeps the smell in, except when you open it...

I agree with this. And if you put some baking soda in it, it really keeps in the smell.

With one child we went through 1 refill every 5 or 6 weeks. With 2they last about 3 weeks.

  • Diaper Genie, all the way! We got one for our baby shower, and hadn't planned on buying one but ended up loving the thing. It lasted forever, kept the smell completely concealed (we live in a small apartment), and I don't remember it costing too much for the refills. It was like once a month we refilled, at $6 for a refill bad. Not bad.

  • Diaper Champ! I used plastic bags we saved from our weekly trips to target.

The diaper genie is like buying paper plates, same with drop ins IMO.

  • Everyone I know has their diaper champ in the garage because it stinks.  We have a genie and while the refills are a pain it keeps the smell out.  We only use it for poopy diapers so the refills last longer.

  • We used a similar one for a short time b/c i couldn't take the pee smell.  Even changing it everyday for me the smell never went away.

  • We love ours.  We only use it for poopy diapers, and save a ton on bags.  We only buy a refill every 4-5 months.

  • I love my diaper genie.  I think Walmart (or somewhere along those lines) sells the non-diaper genie replacement bags and they're better according to DH.  Plus they keep the smell out.

  • I had a Diaper Genie (the model before the one w/the pedal) and I really liked it. It worked out great for us. No smell/odor, and I believe I only went through about 5 refills total ever so I didn't feel like it was expensive.

  • We love our diaper genie. Walmart makes a generic refill that comes with a plastic ring to hold the bags in. Once you have the plastic ring, you can use any garbage bags that fit, not just the ones made specifically for it.

  • i like the champ myself.
