I really just cant decide! I hear so many people that dont have bumpers and say no problems at all then others that use the breathable ones... what are you doing?
Breathable, don't want LO to get stuck in the slats once they can move.

I used one with DD and never had any problems. I missed the discussion on why they are so horrible? I planned on getting another one but now I am curious as to why people are against using them
Our bedding comes with a bumper, like most bedding sets do. But we'll be using a separate breathable bumper for probably the first 6 to 9 months. When SIDS risk is lower, we'll probably switch to the regular bumper the bedding comes with.
i purchased a bedding set, it came with bumpers and as of now i do plan on using them. we do not have our crib yet but i think it is all going to come down to how well they fit the crib we go with. if the fit is questionable, then we may skip them.
Until your baby can roll around the crib you don't need them, but once they are rolling they can get an arm or leg stuck in the sides of the crib. We used the breathable bumper for my DD from 3-9 months and then once she started standing and bouncing around in the crib we bought a regular padded bumper for her protection in the crib! She still has it to this day and loves to play in her crib before bedtime or when she wakes up.

I was just reading up on bumpers actually. We are going for the breathable ones. I thought about going without bumpers, but I found all sorts of stories about parents who would find their infants with their legs stuck in the slats. I found some breathable ones on amazon and I plan on getting one of those. They have quite a few color varieties, so that you can still match your nursery with them, and they seem flimsy/soft enough on the reviews that the baby can't climb up onto them to climb out.
With DS, we used the bumper that came with the set for 3 months. Once he was 3-4mo, he started moving around so we switched to the breathable bumper. For this baby, I'll probably just start off with the breathable bumper right off the bat since we already have one.

We are going to do the breathable one, but we are not going to waste our time putting it on the crib until he/she is rolling around and might get legs or arms stuck in-between the gaps...

They increase the risk of SIDS and well suffocation in general.

The plan is to start with no bumper, then move to breathable once he moves around in his crib. I'm not planning on buying a full crib sheet set so the waste isn't an issue for me, only safety.
While she's an infant, we're not doing any bumpers. We aren't putting ANYTHING in her crib... I don't want to risk it! When she starts to move we're getting the breathable bumpers.
No bumpers. My OB advised me that even "breathable" ones can be unsafe.

breathable ones still have gaps in them. my kid managed to find those gaps and get his leg stuck. we returned it and went back to the regular bumper. we've never had an issue w/ it. (we didn't put it on til he was 6m old). it is a very necessary piece of his crib b/c he's a thrasher and would have bashed his head over and over again w/out it.
I had my cute bumper on for about 1 week and it just made me worry too much. We really didn't need it then. Once DS started rolling around, he would get his feet stuck in the slats and wake-up, so we bought a white breathable bumper and it solved the problem.
I've never had a problem with breathable bumpers! I think bumpers are important to prevent fingers from getting stuck in the bars. It also makes a good padding since both children used to fidget a lot in their sleep.

I was going to get one and then read all the horrible reviews on them and how the American Pediatrics Association now says not to use them.
We are no longer getting a bumper.

Not using them. Not even buying them-- I opted out of a bedding set and just bought crib sheets instead.
I'm way too neurotic and would worry if I used them.
This is what I will be doing. I will use the bumper that comes with our bedding until she can move around...then I will switch to breathable!
