So I am really torn...currently we have a Graco travel system, which our main stroller and I HATE it. It's huge and so hard to manipulate and its heavy. I really want to get a new single stroller but the ones that I would want are on the expensive side.
Add to that, we are expecting #2 due in January, so we'll be needing a double stroller. Given that baby is due in Jan, we won't really need the double much before next summer.
Should I just bite the bullet and get a new single stroller now or deal with the stroller that I hate for another year?
The other question is do most people with 2+ kids have 2 strollers (i.e. a single and a double)?
Re: Stroller issue...dont know what to do..
Could you get one now that can convert to a double? City Select, Phil and Teds, Britax B ready, Valco Tri Mode, or Uppa Baby Vista all have the option of adding a second seat. You can often find these used on Craigslist, too.
We have multiple strollers - snap and go (borrowed from a friend), single lightweight stroller (Bumbleride Flyer - bought it 3 months before we found out I was pg with #2 - probably would have held off if we had known what was going to happen!), single jogging stroller (Bob), and double jogging stroller (Bumbleride Indie Twin). I am also considering buying a double umbrella, but haven't done it yet.
Good luck!
This, we have the BJ City select, a BJ double city Elite, an Aria Twin and a Britax single umbrella stroller. We accumulated them over a few years, and some hunting on craigs list. Depending on where we are going, and what we are doing... i.e. today DH took the kids to the Museum of Natural History so he took the Aria twin which is light weight and easy to fold. We use our City Select the most though.
Can you check on Craigslist for a lightweight umbrella single stroller? I see deals for Maclarens all the time.
A piece of advice -- DO NOT get the UppaBaby Vista with the option for the rumble seat. I HATED IT!! LOATHED IT. UGH. (sorry, tangent.) I would never recommend that to someone for use as a primary double.
We have both a single and a double stroller. The single is if we're not going to be doing a ton of walking - DD does like to walk on her own. Our double stroller is the Baby Trend double stroller so it accomodates both kids. What I like about it is that it can turn into a sit and stand stroller. It is big, but not any bigger than the typical double stroller.
Regarding the single stroller, is there someone who will let you borrow their single stroller or could you buy a cheap umbrella stroller for the time being? Or check craigslist or a gently used children's store?
Maybe you can get a new stroller that is not so bulky and then wait to see what you need once #2 gets here. We are in the same situation. We have a travel system, a single Maclaren and a single jogger. We do not plan on even purchasing a double stroller until next summer. DD #1 will be almost 22 months old when #2 arrives, so I am hoping that once next summer comes around and we are out and about and will actually need a stroller, she may be ok to just walk and/or we will get a sit and stand type of stroller. It all depends on your situation also. I don't go many places without DH, (besides work), so since we already have so many single strollers, it makes sense to us to just use what we have, we each push a stroller. The travel system, although very cumbersome, is nice to have when they are little because you dont have to get them out of their seat if they happen to fall asleep. Wearing #2 is also an option, we plan on doing this also as an alternative to a double.
Also, if you think that your travel system is huge and hard to manipulate, I don't think a double is going to help with that situation, even the ones that you can also use as a single, we have checked them out and they still seem a bit bulky to me for the price you have to pay.
