Ovulation predictor question....

I bought the first response ovulation predictor kit but I have a question about it.....in the kit it says to use first morning urine, but I had read else where that I should use afternoon urine......so which is right? Also has anyone else used these tests before? Any success? My cycle is long 40-43 days and I am having trouble figuring out when I am ovulating....any tips/suggestions would be great appreciated. I also have been tracking my BBT and CM for three months now. CM is no help, it pretty much stays the same......I need help

Re: Ovulation predictor question....

  • I am not super familiar with FR OPK, I use CBE OPKs. I test around noonish, but there are some women that test twice a day.

As far as when to test, my first few cycles I started testing at CD10. After a few cycles I figured out that I don't O until CD 18 (or around there). Now I don't test until CD15.

  • Do your past 3 charts show a temp shift?  I'd start testing about 5 days before the earliest you ovulated.   I used FR OPKs for a bit and always tested around lunchtime.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • Yeah it's getting super expensive because my cycle is so long I don't even ovulate until like day 26-28 (I am guessing). So I have to buy 2 kits at $50 a pop because they only come with 20 test strip thingys...do you think I can just wait and start testing at like day 20? The kit says you have to start on day 6 so it can detect your normal hormone levels.....I really have no idea what I am doing and I feel like I am wasting money.......testing twice a day would cost me a fortune if I started on day 6.....stupid long cycles.....

If you dont O till abound cd 26 i would not use the opk's till around day 22. I had really long cycles also. Most of the time I tested with the opk's in the late afternoon. Are you on FF yet? If not you can get on there though one of the girls sigs on here.

    Good luck

  • yeah they do, but it shows two, like within a week right around the time when i think i am supposed to be ovulating. it dips and spikes for two days, then dips and spikes again and stays high until i get my period...am I weird?

All good advice. Also, have you tried checking CM internally? It may help if you can't tell external.
  • As I recall from using OPK's (and I can't remember what brand, maybe Clearblue?), the time of day isn't as important (like using FMU with pregnancy tests).  Instead, what IS important is the fact that you need to have held your urine for at least 3-4 hours before peeing on the strip and you should try to test around the same time of day every day.  I only ever tested once a day around 2pm, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to try a couple of different times (morning vs. afternoon, for example).

  • I tested twice a day. Are you charting your temperature? That will help to figure out when your ovulating.

Wait, are you using one of the fertility monitors? Because there's a big difference between an OPK and the CBEFM.
