Pregnant after a Loss

What am I supposed to be doing?

I didn't make it pass 17wks the first time, so now at 20wks, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing.

Should I be signing up for hospital tours? Looking into classes? Relaxing for a few weeks?

What is supposed to happen next? GTT, right?

Re: What am I supposed to be doing?

  • Well congrats on being half baked!! It's a weird time - probably too early for registering if you're having a baby shower, I think I waited til 25w or so for that. I did sign up for classes a couple of months in advance which I am taking now, so you could check into that. Otherwise, yeah, chillax for awhile and enjoy being pregnant ;)

  • Feeling the same way! I asked my doctor who said we'll discuss hospitals next visit. He also laid out for me when the other tests take place - the glucose, the RhoGam shot, etc.

Have you spoken to YH? DH and I decided on dates for classes, registry set up, and putting together the nursery.

In the meantime, I think I remember you're a teacher at a private school...I'd say relax. I finish next week and plan on hoofing it over to the local outdoor pool to read and enjoy the water!

  • I'm hoping the answer everyone gives is relaxing and enjoying the ride for awhile.

We're chipping away at our registry (early shower farfar away) and dealing with an upcoming move.  I figure the hospital tours and classes and such can come after the move.

My life has a superb cast but I can't figure out the plot.
  • I would start thinking registries and nursery IMO, thats about when we started.  If you will need daycare I'd start thinking about that soon if they book up quickly around you, that way you will/may have some choices.

For us, classes and tours start after 30w (we are taking a one day express birthing class that includes a hospital tour at 33-34w) I'd try and relax and enjoy for awhile also! I forget, do you have a name picked out, you could start that also!

  • Congrats on being 20 weeks! I say just relax, or if you really need to work on something, maybe start registering. Glucose isn't until around 26-ish weeks. Hospital visits and classes aren't usually on the radar until after 30 weeks.

  • Congrats! I actually did start our registry after the Anatomy scan (just past 20 weeks). I wanted to have a lot of time to tweak it before the shower invites go out. I started looking into classes, but I only scheduled them last week. They can book up quickly, so even though you wouldn't be starting them for a while, it's not a bad idea to start looking into them. I also purchased some baby parenting/ nursing books after my anatomy scan. I started to feel unprepared and just having the books made me feel better. My doctor is having me do the GTT sometime between now and 26 weeks.

  • Thank you for your replies!

Looks like I'll be "relaxing" (is that even possible being PgAL?) until the school year ends. We are not going to register, so we'll look into classes and doing the nursery closer to 30wks.
