Mhmmmm..... not looking to get flamed here at all. But this is stupid!! This is my opinion and you do not have to agree with me. These poor boys are going to be open to so much more ridicule, as already mentioned in the article. I can say a lot more but I won't, I just do not agree at all!
Gee, I must be kind of old school. I always thought that it was a parent's job to give guidance, not to let their kids do whatever the hell they want and then to exploit them as a form of insignificant social protest.
My first thought when I read this on Babble was it sounds stressful for the siblings. How would you like to be the kid who blew it? Christmas would look a little bleak for you, my friend.
Rosie, get with it! Don't you know that Christmas is a totally patriarchal holiday based on some MAN being born or some MAN bringing presents down a chimney?Move over, Santa and Jesus. The new holiday figurehead is the "Winter Hermaphrodite". He spreads gender neutral fun to every boy and girl and undecided.

This.
Kids slip up and say stuff all the time. I was the kid who would forget and tell something that was a "secret." I would then promptly say, "Uh-oh. I wasn't supposed to tell you that."
I think that these kids are being set up to have a difficult time with their peers.
However, if I had a son, he could wear pink, play with "girl" toys, etc. But there would be guidance so that he wasn't too far outside the norm while out of the house interacting with others.
Well, then. I don't know that "guts" is the word I would choose ... but I'll leave it at that.
guts is the wrong word... balls i guess? hmmm...i don't know what the right word is. not saying i agree with it - it would just be really hard for me to keep that a secret - that was all i was saying.

Very good point, and very well said!
And telling people the sex of the baby is just stating a fact. That baby is either male or female. If they want to raise it to fit into some other mold, that's their .... issue.
And there's no way this is going to last long enough to make a difference in the kids life. One of the siblings will let it out before he/she is a year old. And then there's no stopping the grandparents
I just don't get it. I guess whatever floats their boat...
As for school, they are "unschooled", so they don't have to deal with checking the box for their kids. Furthermore, they are in Canada, so even if they went to public schools, they don't have all that testing, so it really won't screw up the beloved data when it comes to scores by not knowing if they are boys/girls.
I don't agree that they are really letting their kids make a choice...they are choosing for their kids to be "undetermined". It's only biology--it's not *really* what makes them who they are...

Eh. There's a short story all about this -- I'm guessing one of them read it:

Interesting read.
ETA: HA! Guess I should have read the whole article first -- it appears they *DID* read this story!

Also, what about when the kid goes to school or daycare? (Although, I'm sure it won't last that long.) People are going to find out.
Am I the only one who thinks these people were just creative in figuring out a way to become famous?
