Mucous in stool = allergy? (updated)

DD has a diagnosed peanut/tree nut allergy (along with dogs & cats), eczema and asthma. I vaguely remember being told by the allergist that mucous in stool can be allergy related.. Is that right or is my memory failing me? I ask because we noticed small hives on DD's face after her nap, she had a loose BM around that time and now, several hrs later, had a *very* mucousy stool. Would you call your allergist (or maybe Pedi) about that? Hives on her face are not uncommon and we dont worry about hives alone unless they don't respond to Benadryl, but the hives + funky diapers have me a bit concerned.

thanks, ladies! [I love having this board!]

  • I know our GI said mucousy diapers were related to milk/soy allergies, so I would guess yes and call. GL!

  • I would definitely put a call in to the allergist.  Would you have any idea what may have caused this?  Any new foods?  Exposure to dogs or cats?  I am sure they will want to know if anything different happened or what she ate prior to the nap.

  • She was around dogs yesterday, but could that cause an intestinal reaction? Usually dog/cat exposure gives her hives and makes her eyes red/swollen. Other than that, she didn't have any new foods that I'm aware of. I'll double check with my DH on that, though. And I'll put a call in to the allergist 1st thing in the am. :(
  • DS had very mucousy stools, eczema and vomiting and when we stopped all dairy it got better. Our pedi said that the symptoms suggested a milk allergy.  I'd like to have him officially tested though, we never did that. We just stopped dairy.
  • I called the allergist this morning and they think it's more likely viral related than allergy related given her lack of other symptoms & nothing new in her diet. But we are going to keep a food/diaper log for a while and if the mucous continues, they'll make an appt for her. Thanks, ladies.
