I'm now pregnant with #2 and DH has been asking if I plan o do an elimination diet around 35-36 wks in case DC2 has milk protein issues. His argument is that we could skip the pain (for us and baby) of waiting to see if it's an issue and then waiting out he time for it to clear both of our systems. He also suspects that he had similar issues as an infant based on what MIL has said.
My question is whether anyone has done a preventative elimination of dairy or whether you have seen any literature as to the incidence in future kids

All three of my kids had a milk protein allergy...one still does. I researched for hours, spoke to our allergist, pediatrician, my OB, etc. They all said the same thing, go on with our eating as normal until we see a problem. Why treat something that's not wrong.
The plus side was that with #2 & 3 I knew what I was looking for and we caught it much much earlier.

I've also spoken to a few pediatric allergists, as well as my own, in regards to this, and they have all agreed with what Starry mentioned above.
However, I will be entirely peanut/tree nut free while pregnant because I'm allergic to tree nuts (as is DS) and we are an entirely peanut free house due to DS's severe allergy, so I never eat it for fear of breathing on him and causing a reaction.
DS was allergic to wheat until he was about 26 months, so I also spoke to the allergists about elliminating that from my diet when pregnant the next time. They all agreed that there was no reason to do so.

I'm pregnant with # 2 right now also and i'm petrified. my allergist said that she has many patients that have kids with food allergist and their younger siblings don't have any allergies. So it's possible.
I asked her about my diet and she said to just stay away from peanuts. When i was pregnant with DS i ate PB like it was going out of style.. she said that's not why he's allergic to peanuts but to stay away as a precaution. Now i eat Almond butter so I pray my second child does not have a tree nut allergy. I am a vegeterian and i keep thinking it has something to do with it.. maybe i didn't get enough protein in my diet while i was pregnant. But who knows. My allergist said that's not it b/c she knows only a few moms in her office that are vegeterians and the rest eat a regular diet.
Have you ever tried Sunbutter? I think it tastes very similar to peanut butter and it is peanut and tree nut free. Just an idea if you are scared about the tree nut allergy.

I'm just not overly indulging in Almond butter like i did with peanut butter. I had 3 to 4 tablespoons of PB every day during my first pregnancy b/c i didn't eat meat so i was worried of not getting enough protein. But now i'm just having some here and there. more like 1 teaspoon every few days.
When I was PG with my DS I craved dairy like I never had before (which is probably why I craved it, I think I needed the calcium). Figured out he had a dairy protein sensitivity early on. With DD, I didn't crave dairy. It was in my diet, but I didn't consume it in mass quantities like I did with DS. What I did consume a lot of what peanut butter. DD still had a milk protein intolerance, but was not allergic to peanuts like DS was (I even ate it at work while BFing - but not at home b/c of DS).
In our case, it is definitely hereditary. My FIL had issues with dairy up until his teen years. It runs on my side too, even though DH and I have no issues with it. I really think that I could not have avoided it and was told by several doctors that the chance of my 2nd child having it was higher b/c DS had it. In my case, it was true.
