Food Allergy

If your LO has a GI reaction, come in

Asher's biggest reaction is gastro-intestinally (sp?) He has a delayed reaction to foods, and cries for hours and hours at night if I feed him anything other than carrots, apples and squash. There is nothing I can do for him other than to bounce him in my arms, this must help his tummy.

It is so hard, I feel so bad he is in pain, and it is just so stressful for me. How are you handling this? Has it gotten better for your LO over time? Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this, would love to hear your story!

  • Is your little one on probiotics?

  • No, is that something I should look into? It hasn't been brought up by our pedi or allergist.

  • I feel they have really helped me - had to fine hypoallergenic ones though not sure what baby options are out there.

  • Yes!  We do a lot of natural healing at our house.  Alternative medicine, chiro, healing inflammation and gut issues with food, etc.  I would highly consider looking in to both probiotics and digestive enzymes.

I actually just started a holistic health course this week! Thanks for any and all advice or tips you can offer!

  • This is a great resource on digestive enzymes.  They've helped us do so much healing at our house!

  • probiotics helped us a little, but not a lot.

There was very little I could do to help him for a long time. Hold him and pat him and clean up the vomit, mostly.

It did improve over time. My son ended up g-tube fed and we ended up slowing his feeds *WAY* down (a feeding taking 90 minutes) which helped a lot, and then over time we were able to slowly increase the speed and he didn't scream anymore.
he's almost 3 now (in 11 days) and finally seems to eat w/o pain.

  • If he can eat rice cereal, there are probiotics in the Happy Baby brand, that is what we use. There is nothing worse than seeing your child in pain. Honestly, I recommend to everyone who posts about any infant allergies that they see a pediatric GI. Ours has been fabulous and so helpful.
