Oh, and I am going to see them in H-town this summer. With BSB. Don't hate.
I could not be more jealous of you. Seriously. You have to call me and hold up your phone so I can listen. And, I am going to give you a pair of my panties to throw at Donnie.
I've got two--one I remember and one I don't. When I was little (like 5ish) I was in luuuuuurve with George Jones. Go ahead and laugh. I'll wait. Anyway, I threw a fit because somehow I found out he was going to be at a (wait for it....wait) bar in town and I had to go. Had.to. So my mom in all her klass and mom-of-the-year-ness took me. Apparently the volume level in the bar hurt my ears, so we left about 5 minutes after we got there. I don't remember any of this at all.
The one I do remember was New Kids on the Block. I was one of those 9 year olds who had the obnoxious tshirts and oversized buttons screaming her head off at Texas Stadium in Dallas back in 1988.
Mine's pretty embarrassing. MC Hammer. in middle school, so early 90s?
I went with a friend and her dad drove us in a limo. We had awesome seats and during one song MC Hammer walked around and happened to walk right in front of us so we got to shack he hand. we were so freaking excited we swore we wouldn't ever wash our hands again. ha!
I think I've got everyone beat for earliest year, maybe. Cindy Lauper at the Erwin Center in '83 or '84. My BFF's mom took us. My mom said 'no' but she had to work that night and my dad asked, "what did your mom say?" Of course, I lied and off I went to the concert. BFF's mom even bought us matching dangle earrings to wear - long ones, maybe 2 inches? Dangle earrings were also way against the rules in my house, so those got me more in trouble when I got home. Good times. I remember the concert being awesome, though.
Next was maybe the Dirty Dancing tour. Or, NKOTB. I can't remember the order. Amy Grant was in there, too, somewhere. Fun post!
I think I've got you all topped on the amazingly embarassing category. Milli Vanilli. Yes, I said MILLI VANILLI people. With special guests Young MC and Expose. 1989, the Patriot Center at GMU, Northern Virginia.
Olivia Newton John- Physical World Tour 1982. My sister wanted to go, but she was only 10 so my parents took her and I got to tag along, I was 3. I remember kicking the seat in front of me. But I still have my program somewhere.
My first concert that anyone can remember was The Who playing at Zilker Park. 1990*? I was 7 and do not remember this at all. However, my parents took me to a lot of music events over the years, so I'm sure there were some less prominent ones before this.
My first concert that was one my parents didn't drag me to was at Stubb's - Smashmouth opening for Sugar Ray. I totally won the tickets from a radio station And yes, my mother did end up coming to chapperone, but I wouldn't let her hang out with us. I found her in the back hanging out with a hooker. A real life hooker. This was 1997.
True story: when I bought my first Beastie Boys cassette tape (Licensed to Ill), my younger brother loved it as well, but he decided on his own that he shouldn't be allowed to listen to Side A because it mentioned stealing and that was wrong. Neither I nor my parents knew about this self-imposted ban until years and years later.
What I wanted: New Kids On the Block. My mom took my older cousins when I was 7 and I begged to go. She said I was too young and would take me to a concert when I was 10.
What I saw: Phil Collins-my Mom's choice when I turned 10. I knew all the songs but he did a lot of gyrating that she covered my eyes for. He was good but so not the same as NKOTB
My parents took us to see lots of concerts (mostly classical) when I was younger, so I don't really count them. One that I remember liking was Philip Glass in Houston (Herman Park, maybe?) around 1984. I don't remember much about the music because there was a simultaneous laser light show. So 80s.
The first concert that I went to of my own free will was the Beastie Boys in Houston in 1995. I went with my BFF and we thought it was amazeballs. I also got my first contact high. We were so out of place - all the other girls around us had green hair and knee-high Doc Martens and my BFF and I were dorks wearing our best denim shirts and James Avery silver crosses. But hey, we got down with our bad selves.
Had I been in Texas I would have been the girl with the green hair who was nice to you anyway.

(sorry in advance I'm just replying to joyco because I don't have time to read all the replies, and also sorry if the formatting is screwy because I'm on my phone).
1). Sting with his shirt off in 1988 = YUM.
2). You suck if a shirt from over 20 years ago still fits. Just sayin'.
3). My first concert was Loverboy in 1985. And it was awesome.

Mine was meh. I think it was Barenaked Ladies and Dido at the old Palmer Auditorium. Or maybe it was the Goo Goo Dolls at the Erwin Center. Either way... not very exciting.

Fine, but mine are going on stage first.
