Austin Babies

what was your very first concert?

Mine was Sting, back in 1988 or 1989, at the Frank Erwin Center.  I went with my sister and my BFF at the time.  It was an AWESOME concert.  We had sh!tty seats, but we definitely could see just fine when he took off his shirt.  :)  I still have the shirt I bought at the concert and it fits!

What was your first concert?  Is it embarrassing or awesome?

  • NKOTB.

    Awesome.

  • LUCKY!  That sounds like a great show.  Dang.

ETA:  I was talking about jgb, but I also love NKOTB.  :)

  • Oasis, 1996.

I went with my BFF and my parents came but sat somewhere else. I experienced my first contact high, and somebody tear gassed the entry/exit foyer after it was over. My eyes were so red I looked high for weeks, and my mom even got a call from my math teacher.

  • Travis Tritt.  I loooooved me some country back in the day.  I really wanted to see NKOTB at Six Flags when I was in Jr. High but my mom was not about to brave the crowds for my Jr. High crushes.  Devastating.  ;)

  • Def Leopard at the Houston Rodeo.  2001

My college roomie took me, because she didn't want to go alone.  I fell asleep during the concert.

  • Embarrasing.

Poison, in the 6th grade.  It was part of my foray into the bad kids clique.  I turned it around not long after that and let my true nerd shine through.  Geeked

    And yes, I'm old.

I was there!  And Bros. opened for her.  That was a great show.  :)

  • Bryan Adams.  Bismarck ND, mid 1990s.  Embarrassingly awesome.

  • I think I've got you all topped on the amazingly embarassing category.  Milli Vanilli.  Yes, I said MILLI VANILLI people.  With special guests Young MC and Expose.  1989, the Patriot Center at GMU, Northern Virginia.

Me = jealous.  What a great show that must have been!  I love all 3 of those performers.  Plus, you get the whole "oh yeah, I saw them perform, I could *totally* tell they were lip-synching" story you can tell.

  • Garbage, Dallas 2000.  Cause it was after I moved to atx, and no one good ever went to the RGV in the 90's!  Except for Vanilla Ice to spring break at SPI, but my parents never let me go to the island during spring break. laaaame.
  • Boys II Men. 1995 Memphis, TN. The first year I moved there.

  • I think my very first was the oakridge boys and the Judds at the rodeo, when my parents dragged me along. I can't remember which was "my" first concert- either mc hammer/vanilla ice (i wore a gold lame' body suit. For realz.) or NKOTB (and, be jealous, I sat in the front row... Donnie held my hand and sang to me- he was totally enamored with my 7 inch high bangs).

    NKOTB.

    Awesome.

Me too! Oh oh oooo oh oh ooo.

Oh, and I am going to see them in H-town this summer. With BSB. Don't hate.

  • George Strait when I was 8, with my mom and aunt.  I don't really count it, but it was pretty cool.

My first with friends, by choice: Blink 182.  I was 16 and my BFF and I LOVED them.

  • Mine was New Edition, sometime in the mid to late 80's (86?,I was around 16).  Al B Sure opened and a Special Appearance by Bobby Brown (he had just left the goup recently).

    It was AWESOME!

  • My parents took us to see lots of concerts (mostly classical) when I was younger, so I don't really count them. One that I remember liking was Philip Glass in Houston (Herman Park, maybe?) around 1984. I don't remember much about the music because there was a simultaneous laser light show. So 80s.

The first concert that I went to of my own free will was the Beastie Boys in Houston in 1995. I went with my BFF and we thought it was amazeballs. I also got my first contact high. We were so out of place - all the other girls around us had green hair and knee-high Doc Martens and my BFF and I were dorks wearing our best denim shirts and James Avery silver crosses. But hey, we got down with our bad selves.

  • Kenny G, probably 1995ish? I went with my friend and her mom. It was really good, and it would have been better if I didn't have to look at him the whole time.

First concert without a parent was Smashing Pumpkins (96 or 97?) and Garbage. That one was WAY awesome.

THis doesn't count just going to see live music somewhere though.

  • Ok, I'm really in the minority.  I have only seen Eli Young Band at the Austin Rodeo last year and Dwight Yoakam at the Austin Rodeo Gala last year.  I only attended those with DH because a couple of his contractors invited us.

I've never really cared to go to a concert.

ETA:  I grew up in the middle of Nebraska, too.  So the closest place for a good concert would have been 3 hours east (Omaha) or 5 hours west (Denver).

I saw them on the Nashville stop of this tour and it was a great show. I'm pretty sure it was late 1996 when I saw them b/c I was a freshman in college.

  • I am so jealous of y'all!  Beastie Boys, Young MC, New Edition, The Jets...awesome!  Donnie holding your hand and singing to you?  Whoa!!

Mine was Hall and Oates with the Righteous Brothers in 1984.  I did love H&O, but obviously went b/c of my parents.  "My" first concert was NKOTB in 8th grade (1990, I think).

    I am totally jealous!

True story: when I bought my first Beastie Boys cassette tape (Licensed to Ill), my younger brother loved it as well, but he decided on his own that he shouldn't be allowed to listen to Side A because it mentioned stealing and that was wrong.  Neither I nor my parents knew about this self-imposted ban until years and years later.
