Snap vs Aplix

What do you prefer for your covers, and why?

Is Aplix essentially velcro?

Is hook and loop the same thing as aplix?

Re: Snap vs Aplix

  • For covers? Aplix

yes, aplix is I think the "generic" name, and Velcro is a brand name

Yes, H&L, aplix, and Velcro can be used somewhat interchangeably.

Thanks.  In what other products does this come up as a choice? AIO?

  • This also comes up in pocket diapers, and, I think All In Ones. However, it seems that more pockets have snaps than H&L/Aplix/velcro.

ETA: I prefer aplix for my small baby - I think I get a better fit. Also, it is easier (and preferred by) daycare and DH.

  • I perfer my aplix fitteds and covers over my snap fitteds.   It is just easier and faster to get a good fit on DS.  He doesn't like diaper changing time so faster is better in our house.

  • I like aplix better because I feel like I get a better fit with them.  However, they do show their wear more than snaps.
  • i prefer aplix bc i feel like i can get a better fit on ds with it.  i've heard that aplix is better for smaller babies and snaps are better for bigger babies.

i think snaps have a better resale value bc the diapers will show less wear overall than an aplix one will, since the aplix eventually wears out or comes unsewn.  but i think it's really just personal preference.

some people love snaps.  i don't hate them, but i do prefer aplix for fit reasons. however i think if our pockets had the lower hip snap then i wouldn't mind snaps so much bc we'd get a better fit.

  • I much prefer aplix for fit reasons.  With snaps, I feel like a end up snapping, unsnapping and resnapping to try and get a good fit around the legs.

Most of my pockets have both options available. I've seen a few fitteds (Thirsties comes to mind) with aplix, but most are snaps.

  • I prefer the velcro (faster and better fit) but dd has started taking them off (didn't see that coming!) So that's a PITA. She's 11 months. We may have to switch to snaps which would be harder for her to remove.
