Just curious How did your recoveries compare to each other. My EDD is next Friday and was just wondering so I know what to expect when the time comes. Was it easier, harder etc Any other advice you can offer?
2nd degree tear with first and 1st degree with second. Second recovery was way easier in terms of pain delivery pain...I felt great within hours. The downside to LO#2s recovery were the hemerroids...didn't have any with my first...not so lucky the second time...my babies are big...9/1 and 8/12.
DD#1 I tore in 2 spots and had an episiotomy (not sure of the degree), so peeing was painful for the first 2 weeks. Felt pretty good otherwise.
DD#2 I tore in one spot, 1st degree, a supra urethral tear. Didn't hurt to pee this time but hurt like I had a scrub brush shoved against the area that I couldn't take off for a few days. Slight lingering back ache from epi, but will gladly take that over labor pain. Afterbirth contractions hurt more while I was in the hospital but motrin helped take care of that. A week later and i'm feeling pretty good.
DS - could barely walk for a month, was on pain killers for two weeks
DD - absolute breeze! was up and walking right after birth, barely feel anything now, got a couple ibuprofen in the hospital but could have survived without them
1st, went pretty smoothly for a 1st I guess. 9 hour labor. 1 internal muscular stitch. I was walking around the block w/ the baby in the stroller to expose her to natural sun light (jaundice) 2 days after I got home from the hospital.
2nd, 9 & 1/2 hour labor. AWEFUL experience but 100% due to the nurse I had. I cringe even thinking about her stupidity. After 7 hours on Pitocin and aweful contractions & said I'd need cervadil or to be sent home since I hadn't progressed. I stopped & looked at her & said "What are you talking about? I was at 2cm this morning before you came on shift?" She tries one more time to check me, she became known as the fister since she broke my water w/ her chubby fingers, a nurse w/ "long skinny fingers" came in & I was at 6cm. 1 hour later at 10cm and my nurse didn't call my dr who was 2 min. down the road. I had to lay w/ my legs crossed for an hour!!!! DS came out after 1 push (literally 10 seconds). He was born blue and I didn't require any stitches. Thankfully my Dr. is on the board at the hosp. and I never saw that nurse again. Recovery was really easy though. I felt great the next day. But I think over-all the experience would probably have been much more pleasant had I not had nurse fisty.

1st- I had an episiotomy # 2, I was sore but took meds to help. My boobs hurt bad from poor latch for almost 2 months and for months after sex hurt from the scar tissue.
2nd- no tears, cuts nada. I felt great. The only difference was the afterpains while nursing hurt like HELL. Only for about 48 hrs, but it was BAD.

Re: How did your recoveries compare?
1st was horrible: 2nd degree tear, tearing in my urethra, heavy bleeding, & maja hemmies.
2nd was a breeze. Minor, completely not noticeable tear. Light bleeding.

1st: 2nd degree tear, some nasty hemmrhoids that took months to heal, but overall it wasn't too bad of a recovery.
2nd: 2nd degree tear (again!), no hemmrhoids, MUCH faster recovery.
#1 was easy - One stitch
#2 was easier - No stitches

I had a 2nd degree tear with DS1. I was out and about pretty quickly, but the tear was really painful for months.
No tear with DS2 and I've felt great since immediately after he was born.
