At my 12 week appointment they did a blood test where I tested negative for any STDs and prior to pregnancy I tested neg for chlamydia and gonorrhea at my yearly gyn appointment... do you think it is reasonable to decline a repeat chlamydia and gonorrhea test at my 37 week appointment if my DH and I are in a monogamous relationship and have both tested neg in all previous STD tests even though we are possibly planning on declining the eye drops?
Re: Declining STD testing
I Bump from my phone 90% of the time, with a baby in my lap, so please excuse my bad format and poor spelling and/or punctuation.
I don't really understand why they would test again, so I see why you would decline. At the same time, it's not an invasive procedure, you've got nothing to worry about, so why not? Is it a requirement for their office if you are not doing eye drops?
This is how I look at it. If you don't want the eye drops given to LO at birth and the only way they will allow that is if you have this blood test done again, then I would definintely do it again.
They did that to me, too. I think I've been tested for chlamydia three times this pregnancy, even though DH and I are completely monogamous. I probably could've refused it, but it's not really invasive, so I didn't see any point in making a fuss. The gonorrhea/chlamydia test isn't even a blood test, at least at my doctor's office - it's just a swab. They did it at the same time as the GBS test.
That said, if it really bugs you, I don't see why you couldn't refuse it if you wanted.

The hospital is looking out for the safety of the baby. You know you and your DH are in a monogamous marriage but they don't. I'm sure they've seen none too often DH's cheating on their pregnant wives and them contracting STD's after being tested.
They don't do it again in PA but I think they do in MD, it depends on the state. It's not invasive and if you have nothing to worry about I don't see the big deal.

Just to clarify: They only wanted to repeat the chla. gono. tests...that being said, I do appreciate the information and opinions... My MW previously said "it would make them feel better if I was tested since I might decline the eye drops" but after I discuss this with my MWs today I will most likely decline...
Thanks everyone
I'm in the same boat as the OP. I tested negative at my yearly appointment and am refusing the eye drops. I haven't been asked to be re-tested though.
It's a blood test.
No, it was a cervical swab... she did it anyway since she was "down there" as she put it even though I declined it... a little miffed...
