Running Pregnant Mamas...

I am a very light-mileage runner, pre-pregnancy I ran a half-marathon (my first) in Sept and then got pregnant in January and reduced my mileage quite a bit.  Due to a number of reasons (excuses) I have only been running 1-3 times a week, 3-4 miles each time since my BFP.  A  few of the times I have ran in the past few weeksI have had a lot of soreness in my pelvis and pain in my crotch (for lack of a better way of putting it) afterwards.  Is this something that a a prenatal cradle or maternity belt might help with?  I guess I figured I might need one of these if I was still running in my 3rd trimester but never this soon.  Anybody experience this?  Did you try a belt or a cradle? Did it help?

I never experienced this. With DD1, I ran daily until I delivered at 40 weeks and I started using a pregnancy support belt at around 30 weeks. I am not using a support belt yet with this baby, I don't need it yet as I am still very small. Not sure what the issue could be...

With my first I ran throughout my pregnancy.  I had to start wearing a belt at 16 or 17 weeks.  i felt better wearing it.  my belly felt better with a belt.  I do not remember having those pains.  i am not running with this one but walking due to back surgery.

  • I used to get some RLP on and off after a run earlier in my pregnancy, but I haven't had anything for a while now.

  • I used a maternity belt while running during my 2nd pg (ran till 4 days before I delivered) and am using the same belt with pg #3.  I believe the belt helps for round ligament pain and any back/belly pain from running.  I don't think it'll help with pubic bone/crotch pain.  That said, my 2nd pg I felt fine running the whole way, but this time around it is more painful so I'm taking it much easier.  Hope you find something that helps you.

  • Thanks for the replies ladies.  I think to start out I am going to try running with my water belt fit snug around my hips/under my belly, I had been leaving it behind since I have only been doing short runs.  I have an OB appt next week so I will mention it to my doctor and see if he has any ideas.  I  guess I'll just have to continue to take it easy and listen to my body.

  • I have this EXACT same issue.  I"ve still kept up my mileage and managed to complete a marathon a few weeks ago and a HM this past weekend, but I notice a HUGE difference.

My doc has just attributed it to RLP.  Since it's not accompanied by spotting or cramping and goes away within 24 hours, it's nothing to worry about.  But I agree that it's completely annoying.  The only solution I've found thus far is to go shorter distances more frequently.  I'm trying to top out a 7 miles in any one run and just add in a few shorter runs during the week.

  • Ok, so what brand of belt do you like?  I HAVE to start running again, I stopped because I felt like my nipples were being ripped off of me (sorry TMI), but my boobs hurt!  I'm only 10 weeks and I have already started gaining more weight than I wanted due to lack of exercise.  I walk, but it isn't enough for me, I get restless.  Thanks!
  • I am a runner and feel like i have to stop running because my nipples are hurting so badly!  I tried bandaids and that helped a couple weeks ago, but it is not helping so much now.  Just two days ago I had the awful pains in my crotch you are speaking of.  I dont have a belly yet so I dont think a belt will help.  Glad to know I am not alone in this department and awesome to know that some of you have run up til the end!  I will keep it up but keep track of my symptoms just in case...
