Anyone use glass bottles?

Did you find a brand you liked best? A friend has a collection of glass Dr. Browns and my mom bought a couple of evenflow ones. I saw some bornfree on amazon, but b/c glass is more expensive I don't want to buy more than I have to until I know what LO will like. Just curious.

Also, are you glad you chose glass bottles? Any problems with breaking? Do you put them in the dishwasher? Travel with them?

Thanks!

Re: Anyone use glass bottles?

  • My biggest concern was the weight.

  • I thought about it.... but since almost all the plastic bottles now are BPA free, we went with plastic. Also, we spent quite a bit of money trying to find the best bottle brand for E, she refused quite a few brands until we found a nipple shape/texture she liked. So, I wouldn't buy too many right now.

And, I agree with Boom Boom, weight is a factor! And child usability/handling. Now I pump right into my bottles at work, and I lug so much to and from work, the extra weight might be annoying.

  • I used glass bottles with Ethan.  I put them in the my dishwasher.  We had no issues with them.  I had the Evenflo ones. I looked at BRU and it doesn't look like they have what I had.  Mine were glass and had a removable rubber casing to protect from breaking.  We removed the casing and washed the glass bottle in dishwasher.  I had 3 glass bottles I believe and 3 or 4 playtex BPA free bottles.  Ethan wasn't too picky about bottles.  We used them at daycare every day.  As for travel, I don't know if we used them out and about too much but that was because I nursed him whenever I had him because I was worried about my supply so I just used bottles when I wasn't around.

I think these glass bottles are still on Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/Evenflo-Bottle-Sleeve-3-Pack-Colors/dp/B001H0GGWS/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1305671841&sr=1-1

We are doing glass bottles. I'll let you know how it works. When it comes to her feeding herself, we may just try https://www.amazon.com/Thinkbaby-Spill-Sippy-Orange-Natural/dp/B003LPUPVU/ref=br_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1KM9BXQN5H9T2&colid=14BWE3892SVMU

  • We use glass. My DH is very anti-plastic, so almost everything is glass or stainless. The majority of ours (which we love) are the Medela brand, but I think they stopped making them. You can still find them on Amazon, and Buy Buy Baby shipped us some from their Arizona store. We also have a couple evenflo ones since they fit the Medela pumps, but we don't care for them as much, and a Life Factory one which is nice but more expensive. We've only had one break on us, and that was one that was dropped outside on the concrete when I was holding T and he had a bottle. The other ones have taken quite a few tumbles and we haven't had any problems. Both the Medela and Life Factory are made with borosilicate (sp?) glass which is supposed to be more durable. We do only use the 4oz size, but weight hasn't really been a problem for us or T. When we needed to, we didn't have any problem traveling with them, but I usually nursed so that wasn't very frequently. A nice bonus of glass is that if you forget to clean one out for awhile, it doesn't hold onto the smell of sour milk like the plastic ones do :-)

We used Evenflo and they were great. None of them ever broke, they were really easy to wash in the dishwasher and didn't have all the parts other bottles had. Plus they are really cheap. We never used any other bottles.
