Birth Stories

Kayleigh's Birth Story!

On Saturday night, Tim and I went to buy him a new jacket. We were walking around Walmart looking at Halloween decorations when I decided I need to go to the bathroom. There was some blood, barely anything, but still there on my pantyliner. I decided it wasn't anything to worry about, and continued shopping for a halloween costume for the baby. No luck. Tim and I decided to go to Theo and Stacy's for dinner around 7 (I loooove their french fries). Still felt nothing really, but a few contrax that I thought were braxton hicks. When we got home, I decided to take a short bath and shave real quick. Then we went and watched 1 episode of Heroes on DVD. By the time the episode was over, I knew the contrax were real. I called my mom who rushed over and we sat there for about an hour talking. My contrax had gone from 10 minutes apart to 3 minutes apart in that 1 hour, so we went to L&D.
When we got to L&D they wanted to send me home because they didnt feel the contrax were strong enough or close enough. I insisted they check my cervix, and they found that I was 4 cm dilated, so they decided to keep me.
I wanted the epidural (Im a wimp) but there was only 1 anesthesiologist who was busy, so I had to wait. In less than 1 hour I went from 4 to 7 cm dilated. They broke my water at this point. Still I waited. Finally at 8 cm an anesthesiologist came in. She tried 3 times to place the epi, and then wrote that I had scoliosis on my chart as an excuse for her inability to place it (I do NOT have scolosis). I was in so much pain that I thought I would die. At 10 cm, another anesthesiologist came in and placed it in 13 minutes flat. I was complete and ready to push.
For 6 hours I "labored down", pushed when they told me to, and Tim could see the top of my baby's head.
After 6 hours they decided she was stuck. She could not fit over my pubic bone, which apparently is shaped funny. Her heart rate started rising dramatically and I was basically told if I wanted to leave the hospital with a living baby, I needed a C-section.
I dont remember too much of the C-section because I was so scared. I went in at 4:00 on 10/12/2008, and my baby was born at 4:40 pm. She weighed 7 lbs, 6 ounces, 20.5 inches long, and had recovered from the heart rate issues very nicely. She is absolutely beautiful! She has picked up breastfeeding very nicely and we are doing great with that. I am on antibiotics and painkillers. I should be able to go home tomorrow, if I don't spike another fever.
I never realized how much you could love another person.
