Since today is traditionally an unlucky day, I'm going to post about something lucky. L received a kidney transplant 9 years ago April 21. It was a very lucky match because at that time his health was very poor and he was going to be pulled off the list due to his failing heart. He did a TV spot to promote organ donation awareness the same day that a horrific accident happened. We were at the hospital when the ambulances came screaming in, and I knew it wasn't good. But I hoped the ER team could do their best for the kids (we were at a children's hosp).
Two days later, we get a call. They have a match! Don't feed L, get to the hospital asap. Now, privacy laws here are pretty strict, we were only supposed to know the age and sex of the donor. Age 5, male, deceased. We knew. The family wanted us to know that they saw L and wanted him to have their son's kidney. It doesn't work that way....it goes to the list. But it turned out that L was at the top.....and was the best match...as close or better than a sibling match.
Fast forward to 2009. L has a rejection episode, his 1st. Up to now, it's been better than fine. Now, he's very sick and struggling to keep the kidney. It's functioning at 51%, not good. He fights back, they stop the rejection.
Last year, they tested his function at 80%. He's healing. I just got back this years' results...91%, his kidney is growing, blood flow is excellent. Fantastic and amazing, considering we nearly lost him at Christmas (a different medical condition). And even better news, a geneticist is pretty sure he has a diagnosis for L. We've been waiting 13 years, and only have to wait a few months to find out if he's right. It would be a giant relief.
So no matter whether things have been good, bad or indifferent, I hope Friday the 13th turns out to be a good day for you in some way shape or form. Feel free to post your lucky story for today, even if it's finding a penny or DH actually remembering to take out the garbage. And yeah, this is why I can be silly or all P & R sometimes, life's too short to miss out on the things you enjoy, and goes by way too fast.
Happy Friday the 13th ladies!

I'm not too skittish about Friday the 13ths.
But what a great story about Logan and his slow-but-sure restoration of good health.
Here's my good Friday news.... my very pregnant/bedrest ordered neighbor is getting her BP under control and will be able to get to her baby shower tomorrow. I've been watching her 5 year old this morning and was kind of secretly dreading if she had to be admitted after today's checkup and I'd be stuck with the kid all day. But all is well!

Yay BB...glad your friend is doing a bit better. At least she'll have her shower.
Yea.. it's tomorrow afternoon, so there's still plenty of time for her to go into early labor! The running joke of the neighborhood is that she'll have the baby tonight. That's what happened to the party host at her shower 3 years ago! We all showed up and there was a note on the door that she had the baby!
