I am planning to fly to KC to see my family when DD is 3 months old, and I've got a few questions about flying with an infant.
I've been told to nurse when we take off and land, but what do you do when all you do is go up and come down (it's only a little more than an hour flight)?
I will need to take her infant seat and base and am planning to get a bag to put it in so it won't get messed up. Any recommendations?
Also, do you have to check carseats if you're going to hold LO during the flight, or can it just be gate checked?
Is there a security line for families or will we have to wait in the long line like everyone else (I've only flown out of MSP once and don't remember)?
These are the things I'm most curious about, and I'm sure there's plenty I haven't thought of yet, so any helpful tips would be appreciated!
Re: Flying with LO ?s
there is a family line that you can use. when we took our 8 month old with us we put his carseat/base in the stroller and gate checked it all, nothing got ruined and that way we didnt have to pay to check it. we tried to feed ds at take off and landing he wasnt really up for that but didnt seem to be bothered. i would blow in his face to make him swallow so his ears would pop! I've flown twice with DS first at 8 months and the second just last month at 21 months...
I never knew that there was a family line, I just stood in the main one and never had any problems. I put him in the stroller and just pushed him until we got to the xray scanner and then folded it up and put it through, and walked through with DS.
I checked the car seat both times at the check-in counter so I didn't have to lug one more thing through security since I was flying with him alone. They actually gave me a bag and I used it for the return flight as well. They like clear bags because then they can see everything and won't go through it.
I did a bottle on the take off the first flight and then he fell asleep with a pacifier and was out until we landed...sucking will help with the ear popping as well so he didn't have any problems.
The last flight we were on he was more curious, but he did well.
Have fun!
