Joann classes. anyone??

Anyone take a cake decorating class at Joann before?  I'm thinking of taking a class, shopping around between Joann and Michaels.  Does Hobby Lobby do them, I wonder?  Guess I'll research that.

  • Yes.  Hobby Lobby does them too.  I never took a class though.  I just had one-on-one free lessons from a retired wedding cake baker/decorater.

  • I've been wondering the same thing. A friend and I have been thinking of taking the cake decorating class at JoAnns. I wonder if it's any good?
  • I think JoAnns classes are the same as Michaels and HL.  I know M's and HL are both level 1 Wilton's cake decorating.  I know a few people that have taken them and enjoyed them.  With level one training, I know several people that have been able to get jobs at grocery store bakeries.  To teach Wilton classes you HAVE to have Wilton training, so I would guess that most of the classes will be almost identical no matter where you take it.

  • i think ac moore does classes too if you have one of those in your area.

i want to take those classes but it just never worked out. and now we live in an area where there is nothing but a walmart *cries*  so i'd have to drive over an hour each way to take one... which is just not gonna happen anytime soon lol.

  • yea, I looked at HL... it's almost 2x more for the same Wilton class.  Guess I'll stick with Joann

HL often does specials where you get the cake decorating kit for free though... something to look into!

  • I did the Wilton Basics class. It was very informative and gave me the jumping off point for decorating cakes. I really like it. Michael's also does them.
  • Also, to add. Supplies are expensive. Joann's will give you a coupon for 30% off one class supply but you will need the book, the kit and a few other things plus your cakes, cupcakes, cookies and icing.
