Questions to ask a Pediatrician?

Hi Ladies, we are in the process of finding a pediatrician for our babies and am wondering what are good questions to ask.  I am in San Jose, does anyone have any recommendations?

TIA

Re: Questions to ask a Pediatrician?

  • How many docs in the practice?

How many years have they been a pedi?

What are their opinions on alternate vaccination schedules?

Is there an after hours phone number, emergency advice line?

    Do they have weekend hours?

Are the doctors on call during off hours?

Some things to look for: separate areas for sick & well kids, play stuff in the waiting rooms, nice nurses & reception staff, cleanliness inside & outside building, oh and the smell!

I totally was turned off one pedi office because it didn't smell clean and the building was not in the best condition.

  • I made up a form to fill out at each interview and have a copy on my blog if you're interested. I felt it really helped me see more clearly who was a right fit for us.

  • If you are in Santa Cruz, I highly, highly, highly recommend Capitola Pediatrics!

Edit: Oops I didn't read the whole post. Anyhow, I'm in SJ and I drive over to Capitola for appointments.

  • I loved our Pedi in Los Gatos, his name is Stuart Pearlman at Los Gatos Pediatrics.  If we didn't move away, he'd still be our pedi.  I have a review of him on Yelp.

320 Dardanelli Ln Ste 16, Los Gatos, CA 95032, 408-866-7830

Here is a link to the Yelp review:
