Soy allergy- (Anyone experience this)?

Due to reflux our doctor has changed our LO's formula to soy. He's been on it for maybe a week or so. I noticed he was getting small red bumps on and around his eyelids and a couple of days later I found more bumps on his ears, face, trunk. These red bumps flare up, go away, and come back within the same day. Today is the worst. His nose is also stuffed up, his poop seems to be fine though and he's not throwing up. I called the doctor and he said he can't diagnose a rash over the phone (no..really!?) but it could be anything...

My question is, has your LO experienced this kind of  reaction to soy when he was allergic?

Thanks.

Re: Soy allergy- (Anyone experience this)?

  • Aww poor little guy!  Reflux, congestion and a skin rash can not only be a symptom of a milk protein allergy but also a soy protein allergy.  Since about half of LOs with a milk protein allergy also have a soy protein allergy I would recommend talking to your ped about switching to an elemental formula, like Neocate or Elecare. Elemental formulas are 100% hypoallergenic because they don?t contain any milk or soy proteins and are made up of individual amino acids (the building blocks of protein).  This makes elemental formulas not only the safest for LOs with allergies but also the easiest to digest.  GL and let us know how things turn out!
