How many wet diapers for a 12 month? (bottle weaned)

We are on day two of no daytime bottle (she still gets a nighttime) I give her milk water and juice in a sippy I noticed the diaper output has slowed. We use huggies snug and dry. I like to let her diaper get a little use before changing.
So my other question is what do you consider a wet diaper.. a diaper used just once can be a wet diaper? Sorry this is silly just the transition from bottles to solids has kind of stressed me out. Don't want to dehydtrate her! (Yep irrational sine there's always a sippy of water around)

  • I honestly have no idea...but it really doesn't sound like you have any reason to worry.

  • It's normal for fluid intake (and therefore output) to slow with that transition from bottles to cups. I want to say LO still needed a diaper change every 2-3 hours during the day (which was 6 am to 8 pm) so 3-6 wets and the rest were dirty and/or wet

If I can tell the diaper is even slightly puffy compared to a fresh never worn before diaper then I have counted it as a wet diaper. And like you, I usually prefer to let the diaper go a bit longer than that so diaper changes around here are about every 2 hours, sometimes less, sometimes more though I do try to change by 2 hours no matter what. If LO is battling a diaper rash (or another yeast infection) though, I check her every 30 minutes and change her as soon as there's even a slight bit of dampness.

At the very very least: Our pedi was ok with 4 diapers of only the slightest bit of dampness but he said any less than that we were going to be admitted for dehydration (LO was really sick at the time and had lost 12 ounces in 24 hours according to their scale).

  • I was told that a bare minimum of 3 wet diapers in a 24-hour period is what they are looking for.  My nurse told me that when DS had the stomach flu and we were concerned about dehydration.

Thanks folks we seem to be in the clear so far then. Helps a lot. Need to get her into her one year appt soon!
  • What I do with milk is I measure it out in a bottle and pour it into a cup.  If she does not finish I measure the amount she has left.  Most days she takes two 4oz milk cups and then has water with meals, even if she has milk with a meal she still likes her water.  I don?t worry about measuring water unless I would notice that she is not drinking much at all.  She also nurses two to three times a day.  So far her diapers have been the same as when she was on the bottle or nursing full-time.
