Verifying Licenses for In Home Daycare?

Does anyone know of any resources to verify in home daycare licenses or past issues?

I essentially want to do a background check on an in home daycare I have found since I do not have any personal connection to the provider.  She seems incredible nice but I am still cautious.

 Can the city or local police station provide any information?  Or has anyone ever used a service or paid for a full background check on someone?

If its a provider your looking into they should have given you their contact at the county to call and check references...ours did.  I just called the county person she had and she did a license look up and told me if there'd been any complaints filed or any issues on her inspections.
