how many girls under 5 do you know with this name?
I ask b/c there was a post recnetly about it (prob. page 3 at this point) and most people seemed to say it was classic but not over used. I have a 3 yo dd named Catherine. We know SIX that were born in the last 3 years (all younger than my dd ). I feel like this name is exploding around me! Not all 6 are close to us - some coworkers kids, former neighbors, etc. but all of them are under the age of 3.
Is this name popular where you live?
fwiw, I still love it and it doesn't bother me -- just the popularity surprises me I guess. for us, it's a family name AND the only girl name dh and I agreed on 100%.
Re: the name Catherine
Oscar born October 2011

DD due September 1, 2014
It's very popular here, and in just about every age group. In my area, I'd compare it to "Michael" for boys or something like that... steadily popular, but not really peaking or falling very sharply, so I don't associate it with a certain age.
I think it's absolutely beautiful and if SIL wasn't a Catherine you can bet it would be up there on our list.
I don't know any little kid Catherine's but I do enjoy the name.
It's my godmother of my baby's name. She's Catherine Emma so we are naming our baby (if it's a girl) after her. I wish we could use Catherine, but it's too long.
I don't know a single Catherine of any age. I know one girl who spells it Cathryn and everyone else is Katherine called Katie (which is a lot, I probably have known 15-20 in my whole life and that's not counting random chicks in college classes).
Catherine is my favorite way to spell it and would be on our list but DH's aunt's name is Katherine and we adore her but the other aunt would take it personally and flip a lid.
Zero. But I don't know many young children.
I know one young child with the name.
DD was almost Katharina, a variation on it.
I actually know zero girls under 20 with this name.
That said, I'm a Katherine in my mid 20's and went to school with several Catherines/Katherines. However, most went by Cate or Katie. Although it was popular growing up, I still love my name and it's classic.
I have wondered the exact same thing. I have a school-aged cousin named Catherine and think it's a beautiful name though. I also have a student with this name, but don't know of any others.
