PIP - rash ... a little help please?

image

image

It looks like hives to me but I've never seen them on a baby, so I'm not totally sure. Just on his legs and butt cheeks. Raised bumps, warm to the touch, no fever and the only thing he ate new was some raspberry cream cheese spread on his toast. No new laundry det. and hasn't been outside today. Acting just fine otherwise and not itching.

Any experience? I talked to the nurse and she's going to consult with my pedi to see if he wants to see him. Thanks!

  • I would say, based on all info provided, he is allergic to raspberries!  :(

And that looks painful!  Poor guy!

  • Aw, poor baby! I know you said you were waiting for the pedi to call back, but did the nurse mention you could give him some benedryl?
    Happy 4th birthday!

  • I spoke with the nurse and the pedi recommended the benadryl and to call back if it hasn't improved by tomorrow afternoon.

I hope the benadryl does the trick and I'll be staying away from all things raspberry for awhile.

  • DS has had that exact same thing twice.  (well, I'm not a doctor, but it looked just like that)  The way you describe it sounds exactly like what DS had.  It didn't seem to bother him at all - no itching or burning or anything.  It just didn't look good.

The first time he had it was when he was probably just around 1 year old and it was right after we gave him a bubble bath for the first time.  He had a really bad reaction from it and the pedi told us that bubble baths really shouldn't be given to kids under 12 years old anyway!  We gave DS benadryl for probably about a week and a half and then it went completely away.

The second time he had it, we never could determine what exactly caused it.  Nothing new was introduced in his environment or diet, at least that we could pinpoint anyway.  We gave him benadryl again and it went away in a few days.

Keep up with the benadryl.  We found that the bumps would go away very quickly after giving him the meds, then as the meds wore off they would come back again very quickly in new spots.

  • I agree it looks like hives. Ds had them just like that after being on an antibiotic for 4 days.

Interesting! The benedryl did work really well and fast ... I was hoping this was it and it wouldn't come back. Poor kids!

  • I'm glad it worked!  At least it sounds like it looks worse than it actually feels.  I felt so bad for DS when he had it, but he didn't seem to care at all!!
