Baby Names

Jax

Where did this name come from? Is there a specific ethnicity it is associated with, or maybe that it originated with? I've seen it numerous times now, is it made up?

BTW- Totally just curious...we already have our name picked out, this is not it.

Re: Jax

  • My nephew is Jackson....we just call him Jax for short because his parents aren't really a fan of "Jack"

  • I thought it was a nickname for Jaxon.

Jaxon, to my knowledge, has no specific ethnicity.  I figure it was made up to be a less popular way of spelling Jackson.

It is a trendy, misspelled, you-neek mess that some American came up with because they wanted their son to be "unique" among all the Jacksons.

One of the most awful "names" I have seen (Jax/Jaxon/Jaxson/Jaxton).

    English ... aka American (Modern)

    Amen.

It is also what my 19 month old son calls our cat, because he can't fully pronounce Jackson.

  • I think it came from uneducated people who thought they were making their child special by giving them a you-neek name.

  • C'mon, don't you want to name your child an airport code?  Our first-born will be BWI.

  • Totally agree.  One of our boy names was Jackson (spelled the 'correct' way) but I have gotten so annoyed with all of the Jackson/Jaxon/Jaxson names lately we decided against it!

  • My dog is named Jax after the general hospital character who was named (and he is a Jack Russell). His first name was Jasper however ( not sure if he is still on the show or not), this was 10 years ago...
