Which Hospital?

edited July 2021 in Michigan Babies
Just wondering if anyone has given birth at the new Metro hospital in Byron Center. If so how was your experience at the hospital as a whole? My husband and I live in Middleville, MI and driving an hour to get to a hospital down town doesn't sound all that wonderful.

Re: Which Hospital?

  • I also live in Middleville and have had a hard time finding "the right" hospital... i had my son at pennock and will NEVER go back it was the worst thing ever... I have been going to metro for my apts. and plan to have our new addition at Metro... they have been fantastic so far i LOVE it... the only thing that was an issue for us was the insurance.. they have a very limited selection of doc. that are taking new people and then you have to have a certin kind of insurance... btu once we got all that taken care of I cant wait. I have had a few friends go to metro and they say they will never go anywhere else.. my father was there for an out patient surgery last year and being the type of guy his is you basically have to tie him down and drag him to the doc. and he said that if he ever has to have anything done thats where hes going... good luck and I hope this helps :)

  • I'm delivering at metro cuz it's 5 mins from my house and seeing Dr. Talcott (very close proximity to the hospital and my home).  I switched to him because the office I was at for my first 2 trimesters was terrible!!  I have been nothing but satisfied with my care :) We also took and enjoyed metro's child birth classes and breastfeeding class (which were covered by our insurance- Priority Health).

dr pete out of meto cascade and other offices is the best dr ever and my metro experiance was AWESOME!

  • I like Metro- actually the OB I went to was affiliated with Metro and I loved her. The only thing was that they do not have a NICU and they dont have midwives. I wanted both- so i switched to Spectrum. I have heard pretty good  things about Spectrum.

  • I have only delivered at Spectrum and this time we are going to St Mary's. I have read that others love Metro...I have heard the complete opposite. Actually-I would never go there after the horror stories I have heard about with docs and care.
  • I was the same way!  I didn't like the idea of having to drive downtown to deliver a baby.... I gave birth at Metro Health Hospital on Byron Center right off M6, and I am so greatful I did!!  We just hopped on the highway and then we were there - so nice!!  The hospital itself is clean and updated, plus the birthing floor is secluded and private.  The rooms were amazing!  The only bummer was that the bathrooms didn't have tubs just showers, but that's no big deal.  So not only was the hospital setting relaxing and nice, I REALLY appreciated the staff.  The nurses were incredibly helpful and kind.  Being my first pregnancy, I had a lot of questions and concerns that the nurses addressed so well.  They were there when you needed them and to check in on you, but they also gave you time to just rest with your newborn!  My friend had a baby a couple months before me and after hearing how awful her hospital experience was, I felt SO blessed with the experience and respect I received at Metro Health.  It almost felt like I was at a hotel....  You were given your space and freedom to really take in and enjoy what you just did!!  I highly reccommend Metro Health and will be having all my babies delivered there.  Definitely tour a few hospitals and choose the right one for you.  Good luck!
  • My doc is a Metro guy, and he is AWESOME!!! The hospital is beautiful, the care I have received thus far has been great. I would recommend it over Spectrum any day. When I called Spectrum to set up a first appointment, they treated me like I was an idiot because I truly didn't know how far I was. I needed the ultrasound to find out. Same thing happened when I called the women's center or whatever it is called, right on Michigan. I live about 3 blocks from both places. I called Metro and was congratulated first of all, then they scheduled an appointment for me right away. I felt a lot better about them, so I went with Metro Health instead. It might be a 10-15 minute drive, but I feel that it's worth it, I am not treated like a number there.
