3rd Trimester

Moronic question about parenting..

If you have a pnp or co-sleeper in your bedroom, what are you keeping LO in while you are downstairs (or not in your room)?

We have a swing but, I don't want to keep him in it everytime I clean or cook.

  • Pack n' play

  • When DS was an infant, we lived in a 2 story house.  I had one pnp for upstairs and one pnp for downstairs.  It worked out great!
  • Our apartment living space is all on one floor so the bedroom is right around the corner from the kitchen and living room. You can use a boppy newborn lounger or just lay them on a blanket on the floor or tummy time mat or wear them in a bjorn while you cook or clean (I've heard babies really like this!).

  • A friend got us a vibrating chair thing that sits up higher. I'm going to put LO in that when we're downstairs at first til we move the PNP out of our room.

    I think it's this one:

  • a mini pack n play would work for down stairs while your cooking/clean/etc.

get the little bouncer. expecially for when you need to shower and do your thing, he'll be happy in that and you don't have to keep sticking your head out listenning to the monitor (especially cause you have a dog-althought shutting the door works too for dogs!)

I really like these two ideas.

I guess we need to look into pnp so I'm not lugging the co-sleeper up and down the stairs.

  • We have a co-sleeper and bouncy seat for upstairs and downstairs we have PNP and swing.
  • We have a cosleeper in our room and a bassinet downstairs. I also plan to use the bouncer seat, but we'll have to keep a close eye on Zoe for a while to make sure she knows she can't lick the baby all day long.
  • My DD loved laying on her playmat while I got my breakfast and straightened up the apartment. ?She would lay there a half hour easily entertained, which lasted until she was about 6 months old. ?By that time she was becoming mobile, so it didn't work as well. ?However, we switched her over to an exersaucer time activity center at that time.

She also spent time in her swing or bouncer. I found I put her in different places depending on the time of day or activity I was dong. For instance, the bouncer seemed best used during the time DH and I ate dinner. ?

We only had one PNP and that was kept in our room and really was only used for naps or night time. ?This time we will be getting a second sleep area for the first floor, because with my DD running around I'm not sure I'll always want to take him up to the 3rd floor where the bedrooms are in our townhouse.?

  • Funny you should ask.

My mom is actually very worried about what I'm going to do.  When I was a baby, my mom would just put me on a blanket on the floor.  But I'm not sure I can do that unless I am right there with the baby (and not just across the room) because we've got two dogs, one of whom is pretty big and rambunctious.

I really don't know what I'll do, but our bedroom is on the first floor (and will have the co-sleeper in it), so I can put the baby down in there if I need to go to the bathroom or something.  I'm getting a Baby Bjorn and a sling, so I'm planning to do some babywearing as I do stuff around the house.  I guess I'll see how it all goes!
