Yeah, you'd think having done this once before I would remember the answer to this.
What were your experiences like with BH contrax? What did they feel like? Where does the tightening happen? How were they different than your real contrax? (don't say one hurts and one doesn't, b/c nurse AND doc already said that's not necessarily true.)
I've had a LOT of BH contrax this entire pregnancy, and they have been more uncomfortable/painful that I remember them being the first time. The nurse said that's normal with second pregnancies because you likely aren't as rested, hydrated, taking it easy, etc. A couple of times they've felt all menstrual-crampy and once I had to get on my hands and knees to breathe through it. Whatevs.
Last night I had some more of those mustrual-crampy painful ones and did some relaxation breathing/techniques to deal with them. They were coming/going, lasting maybe 30 seconds, returning every 3 minutes or so.
Today at work my stomach has been crazy. A tight ball all the way around, not just down low, but way up on top, too, and all around the sides. Like, if I'm leaning forward with my stomach on my legs, I can actually feel it draw up off my legs. (strange sensation, btw.) Some of them have hurt, but mostly it's just been uncomfortable.
The only reason I'm even thinking twice about this is b/c the Rssn is out of town on business, and, well, you know. Murphy's Law and all that.
FWIW, I don't work on my feet, so I'm already sitting and drinking a lot of water. I can't lay down in my office.
Re: Stupid newb post right here
umm...not to get ya all scared or whatev, but I *thought* I was having BH w/ Tommy (not painful, though) and so I started timing them and they were around 2 min apart, consistently. Enter baby a few hours later!
If I remember correctly, it's all about the timing of them, right? If they are happening regularly w/in the hour?
From the google:
A Braxton Hicks contraction might get closer together but not consistently, or they may feel stronger but go away when you move around. Some moms say that they only experience Braxton Hicks contractions when moving around and they cease when mom sits down. Call your doctor or midwife should happen if you have contractions closer than 12 minutes apart prior to 37 weeks
Both kinds of contractions hurt for me but felt different. The BH would sometimes stop me in my tracks if I was walking, and they felt like what I imagined contractions would feel like--my belly tightened up all around and got very hard. My real contractions were the severe menstrual cramp pains that you described above, and I couldn't necessarily feel the tightness on the outside of my belly, just pain from the inside out, if that makes any sense.
It definitely sounds like your body is getting ready! But mine did that for a couple of weeks with each pregnancy before I actually had the babies. :-) So exciting!
The way you are describing yours today...that's what mine were like. The difference for me is that the BH would keep going like that - some worse than others - but they never progressed. Real labor progressed. I had SO many BH in both pregnancies. And with Baby N, when I was 29 weeks and started to get back pain w/ them, they got concerned. I had hours of BH/contrax daily until I had her at 37 weeks. They were very uncomfortable at times...but w/ both girls, when real labor started, the contractions definitely increased in intensity.
You had to breath through a BH? Umm, that sucks.
That tight, sore feeling of the stomach I had the last two ish weeks. My doctor said it was "uterine sensitivity" and was normal. Uh huh, it hurts!
My BH were like my whole stomach, top to bottom, was tightening up to a point where it was painful. Where as contractions were just the lower half and more cramp-like. But I didn't have any BH the last month.
And, um ... when does the rssn get back?
I had tons of BHs too and some of them were no joke. I was told to come in for monitoring if I had more than 6 in an hour or if they didn't go away when I changed activity and/or rested and hydrated.
I'd probably call your doc just to be on the safe side.
This. My BH were all over tightness, and painful at times.
My contractions (yeah, they hurt more, duh) were lower half. Felt like a man was scraping the bottom of his dress shoe from the front to the back of my ute. Oh, and there was a razor blade stuck to the sole.
Do we need to get you one of those life line things until the rssn gets back?
Fudge y'all, I can't go in for monitoring. I have to pick up my KID in an hour.
It's fine. I actually felt better when I got up and walked around and more uncomfortable when I sat, so maybe I'll just stand and work for a bit. We will do a lot of floor playing tonight so that I don't have to get up and down. Rssn is home tomorrow night.
I was just wondering if other pp's BH were all over, since to this point mine had just been mid-to-lower half crampiness.
We're good. BH. Yup.
Huh. Um, well... huh.
Maybe you should write down my number... just in case? I'll be up at 3am if you need me.
Ok, so I'll go ahead and be the practical one.
Is there someone who could watch A tonight for a couple hours while you hit up the hospital for a lil' check?
Alternatively, would you please give a ring to someone in your hood to give them a heads up (just in case, you know).
Or just call your dr's office right. now. to see if they can see you and just check you there. If your cervix is progressing, they will probably want you to go in for monitoring, but if not, then you can at least rest a little easier... And you can bring A with you to their office because you know they'll be quick (at least quicker than the hospital). Good luck - keep us posted!

Yeah, aggieoj is my on-call girl. I'll let her know she's um . . . on call.
(lol...she's my call girl. :::whistle whistle:::)
"Look, I'd love to be your 'beck-and-call' girl, but... it's gonna cost you."

So I called and they said I can wait and see overnight but I had to promise to drink a crap-ton of water and lay down. And I have to go in in the morning to check for a UTI and have them "check me out."
Good times.
