jumperoo concerns

DH is 4.5 months old and when we put him in the jumperoo he's a wild man. He bounces like he's about to take off. We have been putting him in it for a while, but he just started the jumping about a week ago. I have looked online and found conflicting opinions about how young is too young, some say to wait until 6 months. He has pretty solid head control, does anyone know if I should be concerned or hold off until he's 6 months? I'm thinking about calling the pedi to ask, but wanted your advice first.

Re: jumperoo concerns

  • We started using it around 4-5 mos.  DS loved that thing.  The biggest thing with it is to not leave them in there for very long as it isn't good for the hips.  (20 minutes max)
  • We don't have a jumperoo because I was concerned that it would be bad for DD's hips.  She used one at daycare when she was older than 6 months (around 8 months) and liked it, but at that point she was pulling up on furniture and she never used it for long periods of time.

  • DD was in her exersaucer around 4-5 months and we got a jumperoo not long after that. She was in one of those johnny jump ups at my mom's house around 4 months. As long as you feel comfortable with his head control I wouldn't worry too  much. Enjoy watching him have fun :)

  • Both of our boys started in the jumperoo around 4 months. As with most things in life (IMO), moderation is key. Sometimes, I think "suggested" age ranges err on the side of being conservative (a good number of kids just aren't physically ready - for that and/or other things, including solid foods - until around 6 months).

  • We did the Exersaucer at 3 months with DS2 and when he was able to sit up on his own, no slouching, we put him in the jumper.  Serena has really good head control but she is short like her momma so she won't be able to go in it until she can at least touch the bottom on the exersaucer on the lowest setting.

  • DD was 4 months, and she started jumping in it right away.  She had good head control and I had no concerns with her in there.  That was her happy place, I knew I could eat or get something done and she was perfectly content to jump her little heart out in there.  It was a sad sad day when she no longer showed interest in it.
