Jack & Jill Test?

Anyone have this done and is it accurate?  I heard this is being done pretty frequently in the Houston area wiht the NT scan.  I am having my NT scan next Monday (which I'm pretty nervous about) and was thinking I would add the Jack & Jill test if I can.  Would appreciate thoughts about this test...

Also, anyone else freak out about having the NT scan done?  I am 36 and this is my first pregnancy, so I'm freaking out about all the genetic testing options there are and what I should do.  So much to be worried about!!

  • I've never heard of the test, but when I did a search, those who had it done all say it was accurate. Most have said it was included with their NT scan or other genetic testing.

The NT is basically just a more thorough ultra sound. no biggy.

A good board for you is the Pregnant after 35 board. It's a great group of ladies over there ranging from mid30s to about mid 40s. There is also the parenting after 35 board as well.

  • Everyone I know who had the test...it was correct!

I didn't freak out about my NT, but I was nervous, just to make sure everything was ok.  We didn't opt for any additional genetic testing, but I am only 30.  I think there are certain tests I'd probably do if I were over 35, but then again I'm not really sure.  It wouldn't have made a difference as to whether or not I continued my pregnancy, but lining up the necessary medical procedures/doctors in advance is a plus to finding out if anything could be wrong.

  • Is that the gender test? If so, 2e had it done (was free bc our OB refers them so often) and it was correct. I can't remember the percentage, but it has a high accuracy rate since it is determined through blood work not ultrasound.

I had it done and it is right. I want to say its 99.9% accurate. As for the NT scan i was nervous too. i'm due in May and just turned 35 so i was worried about all that can go along with that. My results came back the same as a 20 year old so we didn't do any further testing. congrats and G/L

  • I did the test with both kids, and it was accurate both times.

I am a worrywart, so yes, I worried about the test. I know I could have opted out of it, but I wanted the information. The first time, the nuchal fold measurement was slightly elevated, which freaked me out. It was a long week waiting for the final probabilities that included bloodwork. Once that came back, my fears were calmed. I almost didn't do the NT scan with my second because of the false alarm, but then I figured that if something similar happened again, I would know not to freak out. Nothing out of the ordinary came up the second time.

Chances are, everything will be absolutely perfect. Worrying won't get you anywhere, so try not to stress too much. Easier said than done, I know.

  • I did the test with DD and it was correct. I asked my OB about it and she said she'd never had it be wrong. I asked the u/s tech and her opinion was she saw about 90% accuracy with girls, and higher with boys -- that makes sense to me, because the blood test is measuring for the presence of the Y chromosome in the maternal blood, and absence of something is not conclusive (whereas if the Y chromosome were there it would be obvious, since women don't have one...)

I was a little worried about the NT scan. I was 36 when I got pregnant, 37 when she was born. So yeah, I stressed about it, but at the same time I thought it would be ok... Our measurements all came back good, so our probabilities were excellent when combined with the bloodwork and we didn't do any further testing.

I did talk to the geneticist because I carry muscular dystrophy, but we decided the chances of DD getting it were very low (it's a rare recssive) so I didn't take the referral my peri offered me to get further testing done.

  • Thanks so much for all the feedback!  I really appreciate it.  There are just so many things to think about and consider during a pregnancy, especially when you're older...it can tend to make a woman crazy!  I am really trying not to over think too much and just take it one day at a time, but it can be hard.  It's nice to hear from other women, especially when I have so many questions.

     Good luck to everyone!

  • I did and it was right ;)

It depends where you have your NT Scan. It is done at the Center For Medical Genetics over in Building One by Woman's Hospital. They included it with my NT Scan because my OB is in that Bldg as well. My OB said that it has been correct for all of her patients too.

  • I had it done and it was correct!
