We are eventually going to move DS to a big boy bed (right now he's just on his crib mattress on the floor), once the budget allows. I am thinking I want a full size bed but H thinks he just needs a twin. For those of you who've moved your kids to a real bed, what size did you get and why?
Re: talk to me about beds - twin vs. full
Our crib converted to a full. So he's sleeping in that now. I will say if you like super cute sheets, you have to look harder at places like target. That annoys me, and I'm not ready to pay pbk prices for bed sheets yet :
It's great for bed time reading and snuggling before lights out.

Our crib converted to a full and we already had a full size mattress in our second guest room.
Ditto the pp about it being great to snuggle and read in.

We got both of the girls fulls for a few reasons:
1. easier for us to cuddle with them read stories
2. they like to sleep together occasionally so a full gives them more room
3. If we have company and need the extra beds I know I would rather sleep on a full than a twin as an adult
Jack went from crib to queen b/c it's what we already owned. Tops will go from crib to full b/c the crib converts to full.
I like having more space in their bed b/c there are nights when they don't feel well that Jon or I will go in and sleep w/ them.
When the time comes, we'll probably put one DD in a twin since the rooms are small. The other child will go in a full bed since we already have a full bed in one of the "kid" rooms. It seems silly to throw out a mattress that hasn't been used much.
I figure that sister sleepovers and reading in bed will just have to take place in the room with the bigger bed. Our house has very small secondary bedrooms, and I really think that a child would prefer more space to play than a bigger bed.
As for when they get older--DH slept in a twin bed until he finished his master's degree. When I went to college, I lived in the dorms or a dorm-type living situation; those places were furnished with twin beds and it wasn't a problem for me to adjust back to that (I had grown up in a full size bed).
Yeah. In retrospect, I'm disgusted by the mattress I left for college with. It was 20+ years old. No wonder my allergies were out of control. It was horribly uncomfortable and unsupportive too.
Abby is still on her crib mattress in a toddler bed frame but we'll probably get her a daybed twin with trundle thing when Emily needs her toddler bed. Only because I always wanted a daybed
