It is not a bad name but I feel it is dated. I grew up with 4 Joel's in my class of 25.

My brother is Joel and I totally love the name (though he's Henry Joel, goes by Joel) - it was much less common 23 years ago, but I know several younger Joels.

YES!! I named my first son Joel and now he is grown. Girls tell me they love his name and everyone knows him cause there are very few Joel's in school. I made the right choice.
