According to the Dr, Emily is actually developmentaly only 24wks. Her eyes are still fused shut and her skin is pretty transparent. But she was measuring a week larger. We are being optimistic and hoping that the extra weight and length lead to her having an easier road ahead. They are hoping to start her on the colostrum I have been pumping in a few days. *Fingers crossed* She has jaundice bc her liver is underdeveloped so she is under the blue light for most of the day. Her red blood cell development is also low so we signed a waiver today to allow her to have a blood transfusion from donor blood. This is apparently normal and routine.
On the brightside, DH and I are already able to pick out features on her. She favors DH more than me LOL She has his chin and face shape. My ears though haha
I get discharged tomorrow and then we start our driving back and forth to spend a couple hours a day with her. As hard as this is I can only be grateful DH has been able to be with me. He was originally supposed to be going to Korea for a year, leaving on 2 May. Thankfully that has been postponed but for how long we do not know. Being active duty military has its benefits and its trials.
I would post a picture of Emily if I could figure out how. For now, it is just my little avatar thingie. Being able to hear all of your stories has made a difference in how I am feeling. Thank you all for not only sharing but for being so supportive. It really does help.
Re: Update...
You guys are in my T&P. I hope that you don't live too far from the hospital. If you do live far, is there a Ronald McDonald house available to you?
Kevin had transfusions until he was into the mid-30 week gestation point I think (the details really do fade quickly). He also was on and off the lights for the first week or so.
Isn't it amazing that you can pick out features so early on? Our social worker identified me in the hospital hallway because Kevin looked so much like me.
Keep us posted.

Welcome to the preemie board. and Welcome miss Emily!
My DD Lauren (in siggy pic on the right) had to have transfusions. They really helped her oxygenate. (have better O2 levels) on the vent. Nicu can be a stressful time, so know that we are all here for you. I took lots of pictures when the girls were there. I wanted them to be able to see how far they have come. GL mama! ((Hugs))
