DHEA ladies please come in..

Hello ladies,

We had out WTF today with our current RE and talked about potential next steps should we chose to cycle with him again.  I mentioned having read a lot about DHEA and he though it was something worth trying and I could purchase this over the counter. I want to start ASAP even though we are getting a couple of other opinions on our case as I think it can only have positive effects.

Questions:

1) Are there different brands/kinds that can be taken? If yes, what do you take and is one better than others?

2) How much do you take (dosage)?

3) How long do you take it (weeks, months..)? (we would be looking at cycling again in May)

Thanks in advance!

Re: DHEA ladies please come in..

  • I don't take DHEA, but my naturopath recommends taking a supplement that is GMP certifed. That means that it has been tested by 3 independent labs and contains what it is supposed to contain (which would be pure DHEA). Brands that hold up to these standards include Natrol and Vital Nutrients.

  • I've been on DHEA for about 5 weeks ... I definitely feel better, and I think I even ovulated.  (My fertility monitor said that I did over the weekend.)  But I've also been taking royal jelly, bee pollen, wheatgrass, etc etc etc ... so it's hard to say if one supplement, or the combination of supplements, did the trick.  I have high FSH, low AMH, but normal everything else.

Also, have you been tested for antiovarian antibodies?  I've read in several places that 70% of women with DOR/POF test positive for this antibody.  Basically, your body is having an autoimmune response to your ovaries.  But the way to treat it is steroids like prednisolone ... then you go back to normal.
