1. I find people who say they're going to move to another country every election if their candidate loses annoying. Unless you actually plan to follow through, it's just cliche.
2. I hate President-bashers. Get constructive. Get involved. Change something. But rarely is someone in office or a policitcal candidate all bad. Hating someone just to hate them and picking sides whole-heartedly is half of what's wrong with our political system. I'm mostly a Democrat. I don't think George W. was a good president. But I always wished him as much success as possible in running our country effectively and thought he had decent intentions even if I kind of thought he was an idiot. I think if you're HOPING our president will fail so he won't get re-elected, regardless of which president, you're un-American. Actually that's kind of American. But it shouldn't be.
3. I think most people are all for cutting the budget as long as it doesn't affect them. My sister's uber-conservative BF biitches that a program to attract the film industry in his state is getting cut while at the same time "liking" a gazillion conservative politcians who are for cutting everything. I am a freaking DEMOCRAT and I think stuff needs to get cut. You have to balance your damn budget. I don't eat lobster every day because I can't afford it. Neither should our country (figuratively).
SO basically what I'm saying, is I'm a moderate Democrat who believes in compromise and getting stuff done and I'm just annoyed that everyone complains all the time and there is no spirit of coming together and everyone sacrificing something so we can all be better off.
End rant. Flame away.
Re: My political FFFCs (long)
I was about to post that on twatey's post.
No flames, just a standing ovation.
Well said on all counts.
::hangs head in shame of bad joke::
ETA: FWIW, we probably are going to move to a Caribbean island after DH is done with his current job. We have a lot of connections on multiple islands there and he has already had several job offers. His job is just too kush to leave now.
I consider myself pretty Liberal...and I can still get behind this.
Although I've threatened to leave the U.S. because I don't really like it here...difference being that I'm actually Canadian and DH and I tried to move to Vancouver last summer, but it didn't pan out
::cops a feel::
It's all cool now.
I agree.
Although if anyone wants to move to Canada, I'll show you around and give you poutine.
Note: We only want the non-crazies. Please and thank you.
I can see what you're saying. I'm a conservative, which is taboo in my age group considering where I live, but your argument would apply to both sides.
I get frustrated with two things:
People who preach extreme, one-sided arguments as though they are truth.
People who are "all for" a candidate or political party or cause and have absolutely no basis for it (e.g. I "hate" so-and-so ... but I have done zero research and have no knowledge about that person/party).
Vancouver is definitely my style. And yet I live in Toronto. Figure that out.
But you seem like a Canada type of girl (don't ask me what that means. That you (maybe) like beer and cottages?)
Oh yes, and our healthcare is awesome. But that's a whole other discussion because I know that's not an opinion shared by all.
Oh yeah, no, I don't have the mental capacity today (or most days with the lack of sleep) to discuss healthcare.
And I, of course, know our system isn't perfect. But in my (limited) experiences, I've only had positive ones. So that's saying something.
But yeah, enough of that. More beer and hockey and cottages.
I agree with you. However, DH and I have seriously discussed moving to England or Scotland if a whackjob like Palin or Trump gets elected. If the Republicans nominate less of a whackjob and they won (even if I didn't vote for them) we would stay stateside. I just believe that Palin and Trump are a bad idea for this country.
FWIW, I did kind of like McCain until he picked Palin as his running mate.
Worst thing he ever could have done. Depressed me.
Hecky will you marry me?
there is a cake post on 3-6 monthes

Agreed. I probably would have voted for Obama either way, but McCain really got on my bad side when he chose Palin - it was such a transparent ploy and an insult to women. At best, he chose her to bring the excitement of the potential first female vice president at worst he chose her because he thought American women were stupid enough to be swayed by the fact a vagina was on the ticket. Either way, I don't think you should choose a running mate because she's a woman. I thought we were past that.
I probably could have forgiven him, but after the 08 election he just got more and more old-man/"stay-off-my-grass!"/crotchety. It's too bad.
Are you sure you want to come to Canada? I mean healthcare, beer and cottages aside, at least when you have a president, they do stuff. We have a minority government that just means nothing gets done and we have to vote over and over again.
Canada: come for the beer, stay to practice your right to vote over and over again.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I have a cousin who voices her opinion, and looks like a moron because she has nothing to back up her statements. Drives me batty.
