We just started to try to give our LO's 6oz but one has bad reflux and it's been spit up city! The doc said it was ok to give more if they wanted it and they will drink 80z i think if we let them...lol never satisfied!lol There on enfamil AR and dr brown bottles to help with the spitting up but nothing helps! Some days I'm changing clothes 4 times or more....it's insane. Am I just blessed with a spitty baby and have to deal until he's on baby food?? Anyone try a diff brand of formula that helped?
Also...were almost at the point that we can start spoon feeding cereal...any tips? how much did you give them and how often? i'm not sure what to mix and how much.
Re: how much are your 4mo olds eating???
My DDs are eating 6 1/2-7 oz five times a day. They have reflux but luckily just a lot of small spit ups. Reflux is supposed to get better around 6 months so you are getting close! They were on Alimentum and now Similac Sensitive (Target brand). It didn't change how much they spit up.
We are going to wait on starting to spoon feed until closer to 6 months. When I put rice cereal in their bottles a couple weeks ago, DD1 projectile vomited. So I don't think they will be ready anytime soon!
My babies are only 10 weeks, but my daughter suffers from awful reflux. I find everything helps for a few feedings then its back to the normal spit up (EX Dr. Browns bottles).
I just wanted to share with you something I read online yesterday on a website that was posted around here. I already forget what site! Anyways, it said that babies with reflux could continue eating after they are full because the milk feels good on their sore throats. Makes sense to me and I have started to keep this in mind and look for ques of this. Seems to be helping her a bit.
Once we got to 4 months old they were taking (4) 8oz. bottles a day, so about 30-32oz. they didn't always finish the bottle completely.
Once I started cereal we went with oatmeal cereal instead of rice cereal because I had one with bad reflux and our pedi said the oatmeal cereal would be better for her stomach than the rice cereal. I also did not start them on cereal until they were 4 months adjusted which was at about 5 months old real age. I also started with the one that didn't have reflux and she took it pretty well. I waited about another 2 weeks before starting with the other one. First cereal is more about learning to eat from a spoon than really consuming the food. It did help the one with the reflux once this started getting into her stomach. I think once she was eating cereal everyday and actually getting it in her stomach (not just all down her face, LOL) we were able to drop her meds to only 1 x a day.
I mixed it with formula and made it pretty runny to start so they could not gag and push it back out.
