Story: A friend of mine recently had the most beautiful little boy who appears to have Down Syndrome. This handsome little man was born to an amazing mom who while I know she is worried and scared, will do amazing with her miracle boy.
Crafty Q: I was reading an article on special needs moms, and one of the moms keeps this quotation in her daughter's room: "Life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful."
So I'd like to create or find some way to display this quotation. Any ideas? Paint it on a canvas? Print it and frame it? I want to make something nice she can display, but I'm not a huge artist. I have stamps and cardmaking stuff and some random craft supplies already, but if it's something simple I could figure it out.
Re: Crafty Q + Story

Found it! phew. Easy and it could look really artistic, but I think the "imperfection" part goes with this.
One thing though - do you think she could be offended by implying that her child is not perfect just the way he is?
You are a good friend. If you haven't read this blog or after reading, you think it might help your friend, www.kellehampton.com is a wonderful mom who has a pretty amazing blog and 2 daughters, one of which had DS. I read her several times of week, because she a has a great outlook in general and reminds to be a better mom, by seizing life each day, when I can. Click on "Start Here if you are New" at the top navigation to see her birth story and their beautiful family story. She had a pretty awesome blog before the DS daughter's birth but she's pretty honest about her experience and a place I visit often.
Go to Etsy and steal some inspiration/ideas for your gift - you could print on nice paper with a patterned paper around as a mat and in a frame?
@Jill, we actually have that exact craft bookmarked for later. I love it.
There are many quotes - and etsy is a good place to look - I've always loved A.A.Milne's "You are braver than you think..." and Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the places you'll go...."
If you decide to go a different way, a birth necklace (so many kinds to choose from) is a wonderful gift every mother loves. I still wear mine all the time.
How about a subway art print? The type with the letters in different fonts/sizes (you can google for examples) and put in a pretty frame?
I did have the thought as well that the "perfect" wording has a chance of being taken the wrong way though.
Oooh Jill, that is awesome. I like that one a lot, and would be easy for me to do. The subway art print is a great idea as well...hmm.
I did tell her the quotation, and she loved it. Sidebar: I know what it's like to call your child perfect and have someone say, "well, except for...". I like that this quotation says life isn't perfect, but doesn't say your baby isn't. Because to a mom, your baby is perfect.
