Re: Reusies? Anyone use these?

  • I find them cute but a little gimmicky. I can see kids accidentally tossing them. Why not get a nice reusable bento box or Tupperware?

  • I have two sets for the kids and a set for my lunch. Wash well just don't put soap in there or they'll make your chips smell like laundry soap. My kids have done great with them. They have them in their lunch box along with tupperware. They were worth it to me.

How is a cloth reusable bag more gimmicky than a bento box? I also don't see why a kid would throw it away more easily than throwing away Tupperware. We have some reusable bags an I like them. They're washable, easy for preschoolers to open and close and they are cuter than Tupperware. I got mine from a friend of a friend. Her company name is bundle bean and you can find her on FB. She even went out and found fabric for me that's super cute.

  • I have one (just one) that is similar.  I like it a lot.  They're expensive, though, and i don't use baggies (just containers), so it's not offsetting a cost.  It is great for sandwiches, because it holds them together and they don't dry out or get soggy.

Oh, and regarding throwing them away, i don't think a child would do that, especially if they aren't already used to throwing baggies away.  Early on get them in the habit of sorting (deciding if an item is to be reused/recycled/compost/trash) early, and you should be fine.

  • One of the biggest reasons that people use these over Tupperware is that they don't want plastic touching their food.  They look neat, but I have no experience.  I actually use wax/paper sandwich bags for mine.  It is green and clean.

  • Here's the site I ordered from:

And one thing I like better on these than on the reusies you posted is that the velcro goes all the way across, so you aren't spilling crumbs into your bag.

  • They just seemed pricey for what they were - and you'd need several and a bag to hold a lunch - and maybe easy to lose and hard to clean. But clearly that is not the case... :)
  • There is also a coupon in the Chinook Book for Reusies. I bought them because I had the discount. Whoever it was who said you teach your kids not to throw it away was right on. My kids have never thrown away anything that they are not supposed to. I've even put my home silverware in my oldest lunchbox.
