Two Under 2

coordinating mommy and me classes with 2 under 2~

curious what other mother's do regarding mommy and me classes.  My older daughter is part of Little Gym and Kindermusik.  Thankfully I have the ability to have a babysitter for DD#2 while I go with her to these classes, but I am wondering what I am going to do when I start DD#2 with classes.  They are 18 months apart so they can't be in the same class...and I can't bring them to each others classes.  I am going to be going to mommy and me classes constantly!  Is there any other programs where they can go together with me? or what do you do?  TIA

Re: coordinating mommy and me classes with 2 under 2~

  • There isn't anything like that around here. Mostly everything is 1 parent/kid. And things like music class and story time are a big NO GO for us - DS isn't the sit and clap type of kid.

So we don't really do anything, unfortunately. A BIG downside of 2u2 for us. If I hire a baby sitter it's going to be so DH and I can get out of the house.

We go to the zoo, play areas, indoor play grounds, parks, museum, aquarium, etc. 75% of the time that is with DH. They both are on awaiting list for a montessori preschool for the fall. Now that DD is running around...it just isn't safe for me to take them anywhere that is open or has a potential for losing one of them or something.

  • I take them both to Music Together, and that has worked out well (it is a multi-age class, birth to age 4, I think).  We also did a swimming class, but that was on Saturday morning when DH was around to help - we each took one in the water (the class was ages 6months to 36months).

DS was in Little Gym, and DD would sit in the stroller and watch, but as she got bigger, I felt too guilty leaving her there, so we stopped going when she was 7 months old.  We are moving very soon, and I discovered that the Gymboree near our new house has a family class - for mobile to age 5.  So I think we will try that out and see how it goes.  I feel so badly that poor DD hasn't gotten to do as much as DS!

  • We did Gymboree. The regular Gymboree class (w/ 1 kid) allows you to take DC2 either worn or in the carrier until 6 months. When DD2 was 6 months, we did the Gymboree Music Family class (DC2 is free w/ paid DC1 until they're 13 months old). Both girls were able to participate and loved it! Now DD1 is in preschool so I take DD2 to Gymboree during that time. In the summer we'll probably go back to the family music class. They also offer a family gym class, but with the girls' ages, it's just easier for me in the music class.

  • We do all of our programs through the park district and they don't seem to mind that other siblings come along.  In fact, my almost-2 year old goes to soccer on Wednesdays and they even let my 5 year old step daughter participate.
