Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Soothie past 3 months?

I wast just ordering some more Soothies, because I wanted to have some extras, when I noticed that they say 0-3 months on the package. My son really loves these things, won't take any other paci, and still obviously is calmed by sucking.

If they are not good to use past 3 months, now what do we do??

Re: Soothie past 3 months?

  • My 2 year old still uses the 0-3 ones.  The other ones are harder.  DD#1 hated them so we only bought one pack.  I haven't even tried them with DD#2 becuase I don't want to fix something that isn't broken.  :)

  • They offer harder ones for older babies is all. You don't have to get rid of them or switch to the older version if you don't want to.

Oh thank goodness. So I'm not doing any damage or anything?

This baby would send me to nut house ASAP without the Soothie.

What the crap. Who knew? I have 0-3 and 0-6 soothies and was all like "there is no difference between these!?!?

I have to go feel all of my pacifiers now.

  • DD used to use those until we switched over to the nuk on an experiment (she used the bottles as a paci so we wanted to see how she took the actual paci). But she took them all the way up until about 4 months 1 week, and we still use them if we can't find the nuk ones.

  • I would try to transition away from the Soothie if at all possible.  They are completely non-orthodontic in shape and are bad for teeth/jaw development in older kids.  That's why you don't see them in bigger than 6 month size.

  • My boys never really got into paci's, especially soothies, but one time I asked the pediatrician how important it is to change sizes and he says it's all marketing.  The only reason they make different sizes of paci's is to make you think you need to stop using one size and buy the next one.   It's all to make more money, apparently.

How old is older? My LO isn't even quite 3 months & he hates the orthodontic ones as of right now (I think it might be because the shape is similar to my nipple on the soothie). I know their preferences change all the time, but at almost 3 months, I'm comfortable with soothie for a little longer.
