Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Is this much sleep normal?

I haven't posted in months, but have a question and wanted your input.

My DD is 15 months.  She takes one afternoon nap a day (about 2 hours long).  By 7 pm she is exhausted so we lay her down for bedtime.  She doesn't wake up until 9 am!  Is this normal?  I thought it would only last for a while because she was growing, but it has gone on for a long time.

I'm thankful that my DD is such a good sleeper...but is there such a thing as too much sleep?

Re: Is this much sleep normal?

  • Nope.  Eli went down to one afternoon nap at around 9 months and he follows a similar sleep schedule, just time-adjusted.  He goes to bed at 9pm and will sleep until 10-11am!  He takes one afternoon nap at around 2pm for 2 hours, sometimes a little more or less.

I would kill to be able to sleep in that late with him.....unfortunately, my three year old Sam is up with the roosters.  LOL.

I am so jealous!  DD is down to 1 nap per day & I can't get her to nap more than thirty minutes.  She goes to sleep at 8 & wakes up at 7:30 am.  I can't get anything done during her nap & it drive me a bit crazy sometimes.

  • Thanks, ladies!  Glad to know this is normal.  I didn't mean to make anyone jealous...I'll probably get payback with baby #2!

  • I have to wake Tegan up weekday mornings (at 6:30), but on the weekends she'll go down around 7 PM and wake up between 8-9 AM. She also takes one, 3 hour nap, from 11-2

  • Not in this house it isn't. I am lucky if I get a 1.5hr nap out of DS who still doesn't STTN and maybe gets 9-10 hours of sleep a night (very interrupted).

  • I think it sounds fine.  DD was sleeping 12 hours at night, plus 3 hours of naps up until about a month ago.  Now she's down to more like 13.5-14 hours total a day, but I think your DD is just fine!  Enjoy sleeping in!  :)
