Hi!
DS just had a 3 month progress report by his SLP on his new IFSP. His speech has improved dramitically, and he falls pretty close to age range on "informal assessment tools" namely the "Gard, Gilman, and Gorman's Speech and Language Development Scale" and "Brown's Developmentall Sequence of Oral Language". (He did better on the Gard than Brown's, but still not bad considering where we came from - no speech at all 5 months ago and a diagnosis of motor apraxia.)
The SLP also conducted a Westbys Symbolic Playscale, where he scored about 6-9 months below age range. He does pretend play - feeds his animals, puts them to bed, gives them a bath, etc etc, but hasn't started anything really sophisticated like pretend doctor or school yet. How concerned should I be? What can I do to help encourage more sophisticated imaginative play? How do play and language integrate in a kiddo with probably apraxia and serious motor and low facial tone issues?
Thanks!!!
