Trying to Get Pregnant

Which fertility app is everyone using? and how many people are doing the temping thing?

Seems to be Fertility friend....I have the ovia, period tracker, although I haven't used it and another one.  The ovia sends me emails daily to input info about what's going on, activity level, my diet, whether or not we've had sex, etc.  I like it so far, but it seems everybody is using FF.

I do not have a thermometer for the temping but I've read very mixed reviews on that?

The only way to KNOW if you have ovulated is TEMPING.  There is no other way to confirm it.  You can guess and use other signs to think it's coming, but the only for sure sign is a temperature spike.  If you ask questions about your chart, people will ask for a link to your FF chart.  Go ahead and get it and throw out the others.  =)

  • I used Ovia to track my periods.  We were using it for BC.  Now that we are actively TTC, I want to use the most reliable form of charting.  That's with FF.  You can get a BBT for $10 and its a very simple way to keep track of where you are in your cycle.  Good luck!

  • I was using Ovia and not temping before joining The Bump... After so many recommendations from these ladies, I bought TCOYF, got a BBT, downloaded FF and in the last month I have learned so much more about my body than I had in 27 years. Even if I wasn't TTC, it's still really useful to know this info about your body and cycle! Good luck :)

Temping is the only way to confirm ovulation. Most apps are guessing that You O on cycle day 14 or that you will O 14 days before your next expected period (using past cycle data). This not always the case. You could be missing your fertile window. Checking cm and using opks can help determine when you may be fertile. You can only know when and if you even ovulated by temping. Fertilty Friend has tutorials on temping and other fertility signs. You should read the thread at the top "If You could tell a newbie anything."

  • I think most of the women on this site at least temp and a great majority use fertility friend. The women who have been here the longest recommend it highly.
  • This is my first month off BC and I originally planned on "going with the flow" and trying to just track periods on a calendar. However, after learning a lot here and realizing I was totally scared of giving up control without BC, I decided to temp and I really like it a lot.

I never got a + OPK this cycle, but my chart seems to be confirming an ovulation date.  I also noticed a temp drop the morning I started my period which was awesome because I knew it was coming and was prepared. (I was majorly stressing over being back in those high school days of unexpected surprises)

I'm sure temping was super challenging when women had to do it on paper, but now that you can put your things into an app, it's super easy and takes less than 2 minutes out of your day. I am so glad I do it.
  • I was using MyDaysX on my phone but recently (as in... yesterday lol) switched to Fertility Friend. It does have a few nice features, namely the automatic coverline, but the real advantage is that everyone here uses it. So, if you plan to hang out with us (which would be awesome), it's recommended you use FF. Happy temping!

  • The only thing I have to add is that *technically* temping isn't the only way to confirm ovulation. It can also be confirmed via ultrasound, however as that's not something you can do at home, temping is the only way for an individual to confirm O on their own. Doesn't change the fact that your app isn't telling you anything that Miss Cleo wouldn't do, though.

  • I use fertility friend and temp as well as check my cervical fluid. This was my first month temping and I got crosshairs (yay!) so I have been able to confirm that I do ovulate. I would highly recommend at least temping.

I use FF mainly, but also track with Kindara & Glow.  I like to compare and contrast the predictions because I'm completely consumed and OCD.
At first I thought the whole temping thing sounded like some mystical practice full of superstition and fairy dust, but it's scientific.  It takes a little discipline (about two minutes a day) and it's fascinating to watch your body's cycles reveal themselves.

The original post doesn't really have a question, what do you want to know op?
You are aware that everyone uses FF and most of the women here are temping.

    I am confused,

The question is in the title.
  • I just recently started temping and using FF.  I have 3 other apps that I'm phasing away from now.

Has anyone heard of/used/seen the Wink BBT?  It looks like it has cool features (Except it syncs with the Kindara app, not FF) but it's expensive & I'm not sure if it's worth it for the bells and whistles.  (I tend to get distracted by shiny/overpriced objects!)

  • You should read the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." Without a doubt, temping and tracking cm while knowing what they mean is the key to fertility awareness:)

I haven't heard of it but you really don't need anything fancy. Most BBTs will run you about $8 and even those (usually) will remember your last temp so that you can chart it hours after you take it.

    Thanks @tigerfish227 for catching that!!

Did you quote the wrong one? So confused! Lol
  • Thanks for all the feedback.  I'll definitely get on board with FF.

I had just read in a few different articles online that the temping can be inaccurate at times, but it does appear that everybody is doing it!  I'll look into it!
