Anyone have a LO with pyloric stenosis?

I think DS may be too old to have developed this but I read it can occur in older infants.  DS is 10 months old and has been projectile vomiting for about a month or so (at least 15 times).  He has been having pretty bad stomach pains on and off (mostly at night) and I can feel his stomach spasming sometimes.  He is on Zantac for reflux.  He has lost 1 lb in the last month.  He seems to be very uncomfortbale and the vomiting is really forceful (he popped blood vessels on SAturday night).  It doesn't happen everyday but I am really nervous and the pedi seems to not be very concerned.  She kept attributing it to coughing...then ear infections...etc.... He has been on tons of antibiotics for 8 ear infections in the last 5 months)......Any thoughts?  Sorry so long.  I go to the pedi tomorrow and I have a pediatric gastroenterologist appt in 2 weeks but really want to go sooner.

Thanks

Re: Anyone have a LO with pyloric stenosis?

  • DS had it and it was surgically corrected at 3 weeks.  I have never heard of it happening in older infants, not that it couldn't of course.  With DS, he vomited EVERY time he ate.  It was horrid.  He popped blood vessels as well.  Maybe ask your pediatrician for an ultrasound at your appt.  That is the only way to know for sure.  It is a pretty easy test.  You give him a bottle to eat and the ultrasound tech looks to see if it is emptying properly from his stomach into his intestines.  I hope you get it figured out.  It is no fun to have a sick baby.

  • Your story could be our story almost and exactly the same!  My DS was finally diagnosed w/ EE and put on a special formula to remove dairy and soy from his diet.  He had already been dairy free but we introduced soy and BAM...

Before he was diagnosed w/ the casein intolerance, same issues.  I could show you some horrible pictures of how my poor baby vomited.  While in the ER, they originally thought pyloric stenosis, then it was telescoping intestines, then something else.  Finally after hearing that we upped his soy intake to help put some pounds back on him, they did an upper endoscopy and diagnosed him w/ EE.  We took soy back out of his diet and he has been fine ever since.  Good luck!
